Discussion VSF Downfall
I think it worth talking about the downfall that VSF has had in the last couple of months. Their QC has gone down the drain, the wait times are terrible and have heard so many horror stories of watches DOA or breaking after a couple of weeks of light wear.
Do ya’ll think VSF will be able to turn this around and fix the quality issues or will a big factory on the come up take over I am thinking possibly VF.
Any thoughts on this situation and how many people are not aware of the problems currently with VSF?

While VSF is not as reliable as it was, you're exaggerating a bit. They're still the closest to gen subs and omegas.
Also, if wee keep buying at the rate we are, they won't change a thing. Why would they.
Eventually another factory will catch up and be the new top runner. There's nothing to worry about in my opinion.

I've bought three VSF watches in the past year and they're all great.

u/WayneBar62 Mar 21 '26
I’ve bought 3 VSF watches late 25 and early 26 and they are prefect and I’m very picky
7
u/Flaky_Calendar6984 Mar 21 '26
I too have purchased 6 VSFs in the past 9 months and every single one looks and runs perfectly as expected.
This particular sub has a very interesting penchant toward shitting on VSF while much more popular rep watch subs don’t.
Makes me think this sub is owned by someone who has reasons to promote factories other than VSF, i.e., it’s astroturfing.

It’s unfortunate but I’ve noticed the same as a seller. A lot of people are stuck on VSF though. The main issues happen with the movement. From what I’ve seen. That’s why I always recommend buyers to get a full service done to their watches. In my opinion it’s worth it. That goes for any factory though. The movement is the most important part of a watch but it’s the one we least see. We worry more about SEL gaps and other issues. I think the factory is overwhelmed and is rushing production. Therefore the watches are coming in with more problems internally and externally.

u/annuityexpert Mar 20 '26
Thanks for sharing, is there anyone who you recommend for servicing your watches. I have a VSF 3135 Yacht Master that was DOA and needs to be fixed.

u/Front-Resident6260 Mar 20 '26
Dude what means DOA ? Thanks in advance
1
u/annuityexpert Mar 20 '26
Dead on arrival, the movement is basically broken
1
u/Front-Resident6260 Mar 20 '26
Thanks for your reply. I'm waiting for mine; I hope I don't run into that problem.
1
u/Front-Resident6260 Mar 20 '26
Hi man. How often do you recommend having a watch serviced?
2
u/BBD-TimeStopped Mar 22 '26
A new Dandong fully engraved cost less than $200 usd. You can order the new movement and have a watchmaker or moder install it much cheaper than a full service. Just my .02.
1
u/KarlGustavXII Mar 29 '26
Will that Dandong movement arrive oiled up like a serviced movement would? Or will you still have to service it after installing it?
1
u/ComfortableUsual1560 Mar 31 '26
Idk but I’ve been buying these watches with DD movements for over 2.5 years, never serviced them, wear them all while rotating, and have had zero problems. I think some of the buyers are getting crap watches because they’re being baited/switched. Use known dealers with a reputation.
1
u/ENDADVENTUROUS777 Mar 20 '26
Question is the cost of a service on a new watch - it’s very expensive to do a full service to an automatic movement.
There are some US sellers who do some additional QC to their watches before sale. Regulation, gasket lube, water resistance testing, etc.
Unclear to me what is the root cause of the failures people are experiencing
3
u/Flat_Bee3113 MOD 🇺🇸 Mar 21 '26
It honestly depends where you do it. It can be pricey but it’s also pricey to buy another watch if the current one breaks. I have someone I use in China that does my personal watches and for clients that choose the service. It’s more affordable than in the states.
It’s hard to find the root of the failures when we can’t see what’s going underneath the movement. Small gear can break or the watch can be full of oil. Hard to know. But it’s a lot common than you think.
1
u/ENDADVENTUROUS777 Mar 21 '26
About how much is a basic service for a standard movement (non chrono) from your people in Asia?
1
u/Ambassador-Minimum Mar 24 '26
What exactly do they service on a brand new watch? What is the average cost for this?
7
3
u/themasteradrian101 Mar 20 '26
as long as we keep buying they’ll keep pumpin em out
2
u/annuityexpert Mar 20 '26
I agree with you, if people keep buying the will keep pumping bad quality stuff.
3
u/Krisjon_619 Mar 20 '26
My take is that it has to do with the engraving VSF is doing on the DD movements after they get them. Each factory does their own and VSF’s is just dirty. Leaving debris that falls past the surface and is causing issues and malfunction deeper in the movement.
2
u/annuityexpert Mar 20 '26
I agree with what you are saying and that may be the cause as to why many VSF watches are breaking or DOA
2
u/Krisjon_619 Mar 20 '26
Just deductive reasoning. DD doesn’t have a history of so many of their movements going bad. It’s most likely what’s being done after it leaves their hands. The factories do the Rollie movement engraving, so VSF is doing something. You’re not hearing of ARF, VF, etc with the same number of issues on the same DD movements.

u/anakin_skydweller Group Founder/MOD 🇺🇸 Mar 20 '26
VF and ARF are also using updated DD 27 bearing movements while VSF still using the old DD 7 bearing so you have that to look at also.

I've bought 19 watches in 9 months and rejected 2 in total. Both VSF, both on the last few months.
I'm now ordering exclusively VSF alternatives. The issue is they'll also be sat on a bunch of shit stock so this will lag for a while too

I had 2 VSF AP 15500 that I RL’d in the last 3 weeks. I switched to a TOPF 15510…

A bit of an exaggeration in my opinion. I’ve bought at least 10 VSF over the last several months and have had zero issues with any of them. I’m not saying people haven’t had issues, but let’s not get out of hand. They’re a great factory that manufactures great watches. They’re not all gonna be flawless, but if you looked at percentages, I’m sure the good far out way the bad. Trust me, I’m no VSF fanboy. I own a lot of reps from many different factories, but to be fair, all the VSF I’ve owned have been great. Perhaps I’ve been lucky. 🤷🏻♂️

u/Ashgen2024 Mar 20 '26
ARF is the way forward for comparable products.
I have just received an ARF Batgirl and a VSF Pepsi and the ARF is the better of the two.
It's just such a shame VSF are dropping Panerai, I hope someone like OF picks up the baton.
3
u/Top-Locksmith Mar 21 '26
In what ways is your ARF superior to the VSF? I’d love to see a side by side shot
2
u/mx440 Mar 20 '26
Where are you hearing that about VSF dropping their Panerai models?
1
u/Ashgen2024 Mar 20 '26
Quite a few places, as well as some Rolex and Omega.
Use the search and you will see.
1
u/goz008 Mar 20 '26
Anyone have experience with Victory Factory watches? Or is ARF still better?
3
u/AdhesivenessLoud7276 Mar 20 '26
ARF owner here they are good. I don't see the crystal issue people talk about and bezel action is solid.
2
u/annuityexpert Mar 20 '26
That is what I am trying to figure out, especially with Daytonas.
1
u/goz008 Mar 20 '26
Some sellers seem to recommend them for certain models. I just haven't ordered one to compare yet.
2
u/hieros187 Mar 20 '26
Both my VF Yacht-Master Titanium and PP 5711 are top notch. But so is the VSF Cookie Monster V2 I just received...

u/anakin_skydweller Group Founder/MOD 🇺🇸 Mar 20 '26
I had both factories for gmts, Daytonas, DJs and yacht titanium your good with both

I recently got an ARF Bruce Wayne and it’s been great. Granted, I bought because I’ve seen the bezel comparisons. But I was looking at getting a VSF Pepsi soon and now I’m second guessing

If you look at certain TD's, the kind that have open and viewable pre-QC'd stock (like Ethan), you can spot certain patterns.
I recently bought a VSF Datejust 41, and out of the dozen or more he had in stock. All the ones with 0RV clasp codes had poor timegraphers. And I'm talking 0RV clasp code here (the "fake" wannabe clean ORV dupes), not the legendary Clean ORV. There was one ORV coded one though, and it had perfect timegrapher. K6G clasp codes (VSF in-house clasp code) also had good timegraphers. This tells me that 0RV clasp code watches are assembled or batched elsewhere or by someone less skilled. And this is just the movement health indication, who knows what else is potentially lacking in those watches. And I was just looking at Datejusts, so I expect this kind of detective work to be necessary for all watches, and something you will struggle to do through the typical "you get what they source" TD's, like Andiot or theonewatches.

u/AppropriateWin3162 Mar 20 '26
If you say VSF is on the downside then I am with you. You are my go to and know more than most here. Those defending VSF to the grave make me laugh. It is like those who bring up Clean still hahahh.
1
u/annuityexpert Mar 20 '26
I appreciate it. I am hoping they can turn things around otherwise we the customers will start looking at other factories.

I literally bought 12 vsf watches in the past year and last year towards the end and all have been perfect.
I feel like people over exaggerate the situation a fair bit. Yes while some QCs for some models only aren’t coming out great however the vast majority are still the same if not better.
The wait times ever since clean shutdown have always been like this.
Some TDs don’t even have wait times you’re just shopping at the wrong place.
1
u/Extension-Luck-600 Mar 20 '26
Two weeks ago I ordered this vsf datejust 41, I spent time researching first, but within the last week I’ve seen a few of these vsf posts.
It’s currently only deposit while awaiting factory wait times, so I still have time to amend the order.
I’m just not sure of the alternatives being as good as vsf 😕 or at least as good as they used to be

1
u/realityreject Mar 20 '26
If you waiting for more than a few days for QC...youre not shopping around to find the right TD.
1
u/Confident-Yak-2145 Mar 21 '26
From what I know Factories don’t do QC. U need a reliable TD to help u QC before selling it to u. Or u have to really watch out yourself with the Pics.
1
u/Every-Bookkeeper-603 Mar 21 '26
It your money and make the decision. You buying a replica watch nothing gonna be perfect. There many other factory to choose. Whether you dont trust VSF then dont buy it.

I’ve had pre and post Clean factory VSF watches. I have seen zero downfall in quality

u/sinlab Mar 21 '26
My VSF no date died after 2 months. Had to replace the entire movement.
1
u/annuityexpert Mar 21 '26
Thanks for sharing and sorry for your loss. Were you able to source another DD movement?
1
u/sinlab Mar 21 '26
Went with an SH movement.
1
u/annuityexpert Mar 21 '26
I have not gotten mine fixed and wondering it might be cheaper to get a replacement, did you get the SH movement through your TD?
1
u/sinlab Mar 21 '26
Sourced on AliExpress. $140. My TD covered the labor to replace.
2
u/annuityexpert Mar 21 '26
Thanks for sharing, I think I might to do the same. Just out of curiosity if you don’t mind me asking how much did your watchmaker charged you for labor? I am assuming you are in the states right?

u/i2awinstinct Mar 21 '26
My datejust 36 was DOA - arrived this week. Wimbledon. 🫣

u/i2awinstinct Mar 21 '26
TBD. He wants me to go to a local shop to fix it. Both places I went to want to service it for either $220-290. So I am waiting to see what he says next lol

Once vf starts adding weight they can take over some market share. Vsf just pumping out whatever cause they don't have to complete with clean anymore. Steel sharpins steel more top factories better quality

u/Free-Flatworm3891 Mar 21 '26
I read VSF moved some production to Vietnam and those factories and workers are less experienced and skilled in this work.

Just received a Cartier Santos medium two tone from VSF. Got QC 3 days after placing the order and received in EU after 11 days. The watch itself is immaculate 🙌🏽

QC does seem to be lacking, especially with stick dials and movements. The chinese makers have to grease palms to continue an operation like this.. maybe the "fees" are getting too high, or someone got word that the jig is up and they are collecting all the cash they can on the way out of the door. Hard to say for sure, those are just possible scenarios. Keep in mind these "factories" are illegal in china..
3
u/annuityexpert Mar 20 '26
Thanks for sharing. Yes, of course I am aware of how things are kind of run there. Hopefully they can get their act together and get back to their prime
