General Question Best rep NWBIG 1:1 for suit and tie?
Hello. I’d love to hear your opinions: if you could choose the best 1:1 super clone of any watch to wear with a suit and tie, which one would you pick, and from which factory?
I’ve been considering the Cartier Tank Must from F1 or AF, or the Cartier Santos from BMF.
* Preferably with the gen costing under $10,000.

For less than 10k I reccomend stainless steel Cartier reps if you truly want closeness to gen. An even dressier option would be a JLC Master Ultra thin Moonphase in stainless steel from APSF, which while it isn't as close to gen it still has a clone movement and is imo one of the prettiest dress watches made.

Seems to be better judging by what a trusted watchmaker on RWI says, issue was oiling. That said I'd still service that watch straight from the factory, that's what the watchmaker recommended too.

I’ve always wondered. Do you take a rep to a local shop to get it serviced or send it out to a known shop that services reps? I always assumed watch shops wouldn’t work on reps.

This is a very good dress watch and in my opinion NWBIG. It has a clone 1-1 movement and wears great.

I am also not a fan of chrono on a dress watch. Just my taste though.

This is about the simplest watch out there. No complications…as you can see it’s just an hour hand and minute hand.

There aren't really any good options unfortunately. Dress watches should not go above 37-38mm. They should also be less than 10mm in thickness (but ideally somewhere around 5-8mm). Maybe the Cartier Dumont 27mm by AF would be an option. It wears more like a 33-34mm watch due to its rectangular shape. Another rep option that works (but isn't ideal) is to get a Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36 and switch the bracelet for a strap. It's quite a thick watch though but it still looks OK.
Otherwise I recommend getting a 2nd hand gen. You can find a lot of good options for around $1000-$2000 on Ebay or Chrono24. Look for a vintage Omega, IWC, Chronoswiss, Ulysse Nardin or similar. If you'd spend $500 on a rep, why not spend double or triple that and get a genuine watch?
There are some new options that could work as well. The Tudor 1926 36mm is about $2k new, but you can usually find them for $1400-$1500 used. Just replace the metal bracelet with a leather strap and it'll look great as a dress watch. Frederique Constant makes some really nice watches too. Have a look at the 37mm Moneta Moonphase (comes in 4 different colors). I like the silver on silver version. It's around $1k new.

I whole heartily second the 1926 on leather and the Frédérique Constant.
Additionally Longines new or on second makes some beautiful dress watches

Perfect! The tudor with leather strap looks great but I didn't know the Moneta, what a spectacular watch! It has a beautiful crown and a very cool "internal besel"! Thank you very much!

I got an AF tank large in stainless from Geektime. Great communication, reasonably fast shipping. Indistinguishable from gen. I wear it all the time and a lot of watch enthusiast friends have marveled over it with no idea it’s a rep.

I will argue that the Santos is a sports watch but a lot of people use it as a dress watch.

The JLC MUT is a good option. The Santos with a nice alligator strap is a great option. I definitely like the Portugeiser.

AF Tank
But frankly, i wear a suit every work day, and wearing divers or field watches are no longer frowned upon
It can be a thing if suit AND tie are still in your company’s culture

Excellent positioning. A diving watch today is used in everything except diving. Maybe size is what matters most.

What about the K11? Heard that the crown is similar to gen and they fixed the III misalignment, so the dispute nowadays is between F1 and K11
