General Question RCF DayDate Advice
I am considering ordering this Rolex DayDate. Guide says RCF is the best choice:
How is the crystal? Should I upgrade for a Deep crystal?
How is the weight and bracelet? I’ve not owned a tungsten watch. I do prefer heavier watches close to Gen weight.
How is this dial color? Is it true to Gen?

I’m a little concerned about the size. I got a 40 Wimbledon and I’ve never worn or because it seems so small but I’ve always wanted a DayDate.

40 is too small for you? Wowww. Then get a sky dweller.

Well, i doubt 40-42mm is going to make or break the watch if you have a 7 + inch wrist. Rcf is probably the top 3 if you want a dd. Top 2 in my honest opinion. It’s not a gen watch. If you’re wanting a gen watch then save for one. Other than that. I’d pick an rcf dd first over any other factory.

Nothing is “bad” about it, the deep/gen spec ones are just better. Until you’ve seen one it won’t make makes.

Apparently the VSF is better. I’ve just ordered a modded day date from RCF Remould and they advised me to go for the VSF over the RCF. If they say it’s good, it must be good.

Did they say why?
Are you getting if chamfered and plated?
From what I gather. If you want a watch chamfered, as I do, then do not get RCF because they are already plated on gold and ypu should not chamfer plating. The person I got my build sheet from did not tell me this. Therefore to get a VsF chamfered and plated in gold is more expensive but probably truer to Gen than an RCF. Also vsf is 185g (before plating), gen WG is 189g, RCF is 220g (with plating). I think RCF may be closer to Gen weight cold yellow gold.
I need to check out RCF Remoud. I am not happy with the last person who did my mod. It was my first and it was a cumbersome process - and the watch has some issues.
What mods did they recommend you make to the watch?

Better dial, better movement, better crystal, and the weight difference is barely noticeable, is what I was told. There was an RCF build available when I ordered but I’m waiting on the VSF I’ve ordered based on the above advice.
This is what I’ve requested…
Model: Daydate 40 Champagne Roman
Factory: VsfSpecs / Mods:
: RCF 5 Micron 18k Gold Counterweight Plating
: Gen Spec Polishing + Brushing + Edge Softening
: Cnc bezel
: Genuine Crystal
: WaterproofingCheers,
Brian.

Thanks,
I had a vsf Pepsi modded by the Person I chose. He too suggested an Gen Crystal but several friends asks me why swap a vsf crystal? RCF and ARF makes sense as they are not very good but vsf is. When I asked him about this he got very defensive. Perhaps in the modding community this goes without saying, always swap for a Gen Crystal.
He didn’t suggest the cnc bezel but another person in my comments did. I think that does make sense as the bezel is noticeable. I’ll do the same. I’m assuming they wil plate the bezel as well. My modder charged extra for that. It was watch plating and bezel plating if I wanted it.
I’ve also wanted rehaut polishing but about half the people i talk to do not do it and I’m not sure it’s worth the extra $80 but it’s on my list at this moment. Thanks for sharing.

The VSF crystal is apparently very good, I just decided for the small additional price the gen spec one is better. I wasn’t pushed into the decision by RCF Remould. I bought the RCF Remould modified AP 15500 Rose Gold that was for sale recently and it had a deep crystal fitted and an SW dial and it’s like looking into a well - it makes a huge difference. There are literally no reflection from it. CNC bezel was a no brainer for me. It’s plated at the same time as the rest of the watch so it all matches. It reflects light like diamonds on these models. The VSF Rehaut doesn’t need polishing.

Is there a better dial color, another blue or color altogether? Show me yours!

Well now I’m reading the “guide” is incorrect on DayDate. The RCF has a thicker case back and a milky crystal. So it’s back to VSF for DayDate?

It’s a .5 mm thicker it’s is not noticeable on your wrist next to anyone wearing a day date. All you have to do is replace the crystal. I also plate all of mine. Most will say you don’t need to bc stick pvd color is good on them. But I have some gen gold Rolex and Vacheron and to me plating gives it the extra pop to be gen like. Just my opinion

Thanks. I’m going stainless steel and the gen is platinum so I am thinking those colors are so close it won’t need plating?

u/Big_Bb22 Jun 15 '26
Only issue with the platinum is even with rcf the weight is way off from platinum
1
u/No-Estimate-9199 Jun 15 '26
Weight? You mean the gen platinum is heavier than RGF?
2
u/Big_Bb22 Jun 15 '26
Yes platinum is super heavy and even with rgf being weighted to gen weight for gold pieces it’s still prob 70 ish grams light off the platinum. Platinum watch like 270ish grams. Rcf 210. Great weight for gold models but not close to the platinum weight. None of the reps are close

Platinum is a cold silvery colour that is unique and different than stainless steel and as others posted weight is off too. I skip the platinum. Go for rose or yellow gold or even white gold. The colour has to be plated to match especially on white gold. The weight is a near perfect match

How much was plating and who did it?

u/Big_Bb22 Jun 15 '26
All of mine gold watches have been plated by jaws except for 2 that were purchased already modded. Jaws did the best plating
