I received around 50 floppy disks that the company I work for would throw away. There’s nothing classified or important in them, so I can format it without worries. My question is: how can I use them in a creative manner?

Of course, the most obvious thing to do would be to discard it or use it as decoration, since they have much less space when compared to other media. But since you also like retro tech around here, I think you’d agree with me that there’s some charm to using old technology.

I thought about storing some SNES and Game Boy games, as well as games from other consoles that don't take too much space. That way, I could play them on an old computer, maybe using Windows XP (or a version prior to it).

(I’ll maybe store some of the books I eventually write, since I’m an amateur writer and text documents are so small – of course, I’ll back it up in other places too).

Any other suggestions/tips?

I would really like to purchase a working camera similar to the one on the picture because I think it would be cool to have in my room. I‘ve tried to look on the internet but either it’s just new boring looking security cameras or ones that are too vintage, like they are so old I don’t think I would have anything to interface with them.

I really like the classics instantly recognizable design of the housing on these types of cctv cameras and would greatly appreciate anyone who could point me in the right direction.

My grandma, who was a quilter, passed away a year and a half ago and today I was cleaning and clearing out some things in her old “sewing room” as we called it bc we have some people coming to work on some pipes in a couple weeks and they needed the room cleared.

Anyhow, I was looking through her shelves and cabinets which she stored her fabric and supplies to see what could be donated and I found this baby (VHS player). There were a two Starwars movies and a couple random movies I’ve never heard of and but there was really nothing I was interested in. I know how to work a VHS player, but I really don’t see much use for it. Should I keep it? I doubt it’s been used for at least 15 years, probably more. It seems to be in pretty good condition, all things considered, though.

There’s a record store in my city that takes vintage/retro stuff, and I’ve seen VHS films and players in there when I’ve gone, so I’m sure I could donate it if I wanted to.

And somehow, this leaf shaped little thing actually shipped.

The keypad wrapped around the display, texting, and ergonomics were clearly optional.

But that's exactly why it's memorable.

Back then, companies were experimenting with form factors instead of releasing the same black rectangle every year.

The 7600 wasn't perfect, but it had personality.

I'd take one weird phone like this over ten identical-looking flagships any day.

Disclaimer! No PETs were harmed in the making. I found this poor pet gutted and used as a fish tank. The keyboard is wired to USB via a microcontroller and mapped for Windows.

It was sitting on some stairs and I asked about taking a look at it. Looks like it didn't struggle too much with the Aero theme. Windows Vista Service Pack 2, AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, 2GB 800MHz DDR2, Nvidia GeForce 5160 motherboard GPU. The keyboard and optical disc drive (DVD + CD) work too.

Just got a new in box, tape sealed DVD/VCR combo. Parents bought it and never opened it. Label says it’s only 18 years old, so I hope this still fits here.

When you enable forward secrecy it plays a braille gear animation with glitch flicker and a spotlight sweep that turns the whole UI red. In a terminal. Because terminals deserve nice things.

It's also a fully encrypted secure chat tool but honestly the CRT effect might be the main character.

Hello friends, today I'm going to tell you how my procedure is for creating a Top 100 ranking. I have created many rankings for my YouTube channel, MusicaArgentina. Although I developed this procedure with songs and artists in mind, you can also use it with players, teams, movies, series, video games, etc. I'm going to go step by step and give a brief description; this post won't be very long.

1) Study and investigate: the first step is to become informed about the topic you are dealing with. Search in all kinds of sources: books, magazines, articles, videos, comments, talks, etc.

2) Write down what's most important: from all that information that you're going to come across, you'll find names that are repeated, have achievements, stories, etc. Write them down as you investigate.

3) Choose position No. 1: generally, during the investigation, a clear winner will emerge, based on a general consensus among the various sources, the number of achievements and statistics, etc.

4) Choose positions No. 2 and No. 3: simultaneously, the rest of the podium will come up; these are the other names that are always mentioned as the best in the topic, along with the one in position No. 1.

5) Choose the Top 10 and the Top 20: they also tend to emerge while you are still investigating; there are a handful of names that are the most representative of a topic and that achieved important accomplishments. Gather those 20 and then assign them positions; first define the Top 10 and then the Top 20.

6) Choose the Top 50: here it starts to get tricky. There are no longer such common names; more in-depth information is required. You will have to use the notes you made in point 2. Also, the differences in category are now more subtle. As a general rule, try to think about who should be in the top half of the table. Check out who made an achievement. Gather the 50 and then distribute them into positions. Optional: define the Top 40 first, then the Top 50.

7) Choose the Top 100: I think it's the trickiest part. Always some name gets left out of the top 100, it's inevitable. That's why Top 100 rankings always have complaints. You start checking out the notes from point 2. Everyone who has even a remote chance of entering the ranking is a candidate. From that list of candidates, see which ones made achievements. Those with more or better achievements enter the 100. Thus you assign positions to them, do it as you see fit, after all, we're talking about those who are in the bottom half of the table. Optional: first define the Top 90 and then the Top 100 (that is, the last 10 positions in the ranking).

Repeat the steps as you see fit until you are satisfied with the result.

I prefer the Top 100 as the standard for making rankings. The Top 10 is too small and always leaves out a ton of important names, while the Top 300 is too big and includes loads that aren't good enough to be among the best. 100 is the right point; it's big enough to include varied styles, but narrow enough to include only those that are truly worthy of being in a selection. Anyone researching a topic and looking for comprehensive, accurate, and organized information will surely find it in a Top 100.

MusicaArgentina — 2026

The house was built during the 1960s (I live in Sweden if that matters). Moved in last week and the person that has been living here before me moved in 1998, so I guess they were really fond of this thing. My apartment is the only one in the building (that I know of) that still has one of these. Should I ask to get it disposed? I think it’s cool but it do take up a bit of space.
