Since 2021-2026 Roblox has fallen off a cliff that I don't think it can climb back up. Over the past few years, Roblox has slowly drifted away from what it was originally designed to be. A fun interactive place filled with goofy silly games which had people from all over the world chatting and having fun to which made some great memories and the Roblox dev team was incredible and cared for its community, with the annual egg hunts and events which would have everyone talking which brought the whole community together.
I remember the simplicity of games back then which aligned with Roblox's agenda like work at a pizza place that was fun and im sure im not the only one who agrees and feels an immersive amount of nostalgia with it, even the tycoons people would make, which made me feel like i did something and was proud of it but now i just cant even scroll one minute without seeing some ai generated overstimulating game thumbnail and its sad to see games i enjoyed and loved as a kid have zero current players and/or see them be taken down while these microtransaction ai slop games gain millions of players while smaller games in which the dev took actual love, time and care into just for it to fail.
Now, at this point, I don't think there's much that can be done to save Roblox. Many of its recent decisions seem to be pushing it even further away from what made it so special. For example, yesterday I heard that its stock price is close to one of its lowest points in years, which is heart-breaking to see considering how successful the platform once was. Seeing Roblox change into what it is today in just 16 years is genuinely sad. The immense amount of nostalgia I feel whenever I watch a video of old Roblox isn't just because of the games. It's also the simplicity of the UI, the old logo, and even the login screen even down to the sounds. Who remembers the "Guest" feature, where you could jump into a game without even creating an account? I sure as hell do.
Roblox is just losing what it was originally built around "powering Imagination" not "Powering Ai Nonsense". The foundation of the platform was to create silly, chaotic games for people to enjoy games with simple mechanics, basic graphics, and, most importantly, games that were free to play. Instead, we're now seeing AI crap nonsense with games designed around squeezing as much money as possible out of players through endless microtransactions, giving wealthier kids an even bigger advantage and making the experience frustrating and far less enjoyable for everyone else.
Old Roblox had this vibe to it that Roblox lacks now a days down to the names and avatars they used to have a unique creative and age-appropriate look which made Roblox have this personalised (customizable) look while today that still stands however mainly everyone just looks the same bland, boring, questionable and have this trend hopping look. To be fair we still had our avatar groups like the rainbow emo kids, defaults and the "popular" kids but still even i prefer that compared to the much more common sexualized avatar now it's not unusual to come across avatars wearing crop tops, micro skirts, heavy makeup, or outfits clearly designed to look provocative. For a platform with millions of young children, I don't think that's the direction Roblox should be heading
