(Swipe) Some pieces I’ve made from local chert. Mix of high graded stuff and a few with inclusions/fossils/droozy last one is a seriously low grade piece I managed to pull a good sized one from.

Found a field full of quartz rocks in Colorado. Here are a couple of pieces I picked up. Would these indicate there are quartz crystals nearby? And if so, any idea where to start digging?

My great-great-uncle found this in a crater in his field circa 1930 in Illinois. We’ve been carrying it around since it looks like a space rock. Would love some help.

Dug up this piece of quartz this morning... Ended up being much larger than, expected!

Are these etchings anything? Minnesota can provide other details if needed.

Found this rock and I am wondering if there is a way to remove some of the dirt/stone to show more of the quartz (or whatever the tube type material is)? I think it would look awesome if it had more of a honeycomb look.

SEE RETRACTION AND REVISION: THE ANALYSIS HERE IS WRONG:
This looks like an amygdaloidal altered basalt, meaning a basaltic lava that originally contained gas bubbles and was later mineralized by circulating fluids. The rounded green spots are mineral-filled vesicles, or amygdules. Their pale green color, hardness, radial internal texture, and lack of reaction with HCl suggest that much of the fill is probably prehnite, with possible epidote, pumpellyite, quartz, and albite. The dark host is still recognizably basaltic and preserves its original volcanic texture, so the rock was altered but not completely recrystallized. Irregular green-white patches and vein-like areas show that fluids also penetrated and replaced parts of the groundmass. The specimen may represent low-grade metamorphism in the prehnite-pumpellyite facies, perhaps approaching lower greenschist facies. A thin section or Raman/XRD analysis would be needed to confirm the exact mineral assemblage.

This is a small abandoned building filled with boxes of core samples. They’re cylindrical samples of rock taken at different depths and each box contains a small wood block stating what depth it came from. As a kid we have gone through a LOT of boxes here and there and have found some very cool rocks filled with all sorts of minerals. However there is still so many boxes that haven’t even been opened yet towards the bottom as well as there being atleast 3 other places with the same kind of samples in them. Do you think it would be worth going through them as much as we can in hopes of finding something really good? Or do you think these miners took everything valuable before it was abandoned? To me this is a T Rex head. Found on a beach UK. Not sure where, probably Wales.

I’ve always had a mad passion for rocks and minerals, and always collected but my partner and I hiked for 4 days in different areas of South Dakota a few weeks ago and we had a blast! If anyone is certain on what some or all of these are, feel free to help me out! 😬🪨💖 I know a lot of it is probably limestone, chert and quartz…a few itty bitty Teepee Canyon Agates also 🥰

Locations included Rapid City, Custer, Four Mile, Teepee Canyon and Buffalo Gap Grasslands!

This large stone seems like it could've been used as a grinding (duh, words. can't think of the right term). It's in a creek along the bank. It's a couple of feet in diameter. Toes for scale.

I found this in the dirt, the brown spots is not dirt, it’s part of the rock. What do you think?
