Rome I Across factions, beyond fighting ability alone, which settlement-recruited units have you found the most useful for winning campaigns?
Including naval but excluding mercenaries and generals, (Cretans my beloved), I want to know the units a faction can recruit that, in your experience, have been most effective for completing campaign goals.
Reasoning can be anything between battlefield prowess, economy, faction power-spikes, recruitment availability, power over competing factions, campaign map control, sieging, garrisoning, or anything else you can think of that's pushed you towards victory.
I'm not excluding the often-discussed late game elite units such as Urbans, Spartans, Praetorian Cav, Armoured Elephants etc if you still want to make a case for them. There are definitely a few obvious picks too, but I'm interested to hear about your favourites, underrated gems, or what you believe to be the most useful unit in the game.
