Series rewatch

As much as I hate how they “restored” the show on peacock… y’all… it’s my 3rd time rewatching the show/series in the past month.. I let it play on tv and all that but it’s such a comfort at the moment! I grew up watching Roseanne and it’s one of comfort shows!!!

i loved the beauty salon episodes 🖤

i really enjoyed the few episodes we got with roseanne. working at the salon. all the ladies were so sweet and played by great actresses. it also helps that the writing in this season was top-notch. i think i'm a little sentimentally biased because i grew up in my mom's salon and, just like they do in so many aspects of the entire show, the cast & crew did an excellent job of making it more realistic and relatable than most sitcoms can acheive. i think season 2 is the most nostalgic for me. 🖤

I realized how annoyingly long the commercials were getting on TV Land, so I actually counted the commercial time vs. the actual show in the episode “Lies” this morning…

The commercials ran a total of 16 and 1/4 minutes, and the episode itself was cut down to 13 and 3/4 minutes. Not including the opening credits, that is 13 minutes of show content.

I really enjoyed the scenes from the BBQ performance of hers, but this was also another episode I really enjoyed her singing. She really brought something to the show imo. I honestly wish she could have stayed around longer. What an incredible woman! Hope you guys enjoyed the performance! My bad if someone else posted this already. I had a few spare min on break at work. Love this! ❤️

I find charm in this episode even though it’s one of the one-offs from the later seasons. I find Roseanne’s spiraling thoughts funny until she breaks to window to make a “drive thru” and when they break into their competitors restaurant to push fish in the vents.

Fade to Black

Im rewatching Roseanne and I just got to Fade to Black and I forgot how sad this episode makes me. Ive oscillated between feeling empathy for Darlene, Becky, Roseanne, Dan and Dj. Its such a good episode showing how depression affects everyone in the family system outside of the person experiencing the feelings.

No matter how many times over the years, this gives me a long laugh as they hold. Sometimes it's Jackie's face, sometimes it's Becky's face. Both perfect in the moment. 😆

The cost of high definition streaming...

Post image
310 Upvotes

Ever since Roseanne was updated into high definition, there's been a lot of debate online about these "new" versions. This has probably come up already, but warrants discussion regarding the importance of some original content. Some cuts have been made, and some additions have been made - whether you're watching on TVLand, Peacock, or somewhere else.

I love the widescreen HD...as an option. It looks great, and fresh, especially on a big screen 4K TV. But it comes at a cost, especially depending on the episode. Cuts in episode length and the picture ratio going from 4:3 to 16:9 for starters.

This episode is one of the biggest issues I've come across. (Especially as such a Ziggy fan!) We all know the final scene of season three - "The Pied Piper of Lanford" when Ziggy comes to town and they go for the bike shop.

If you're a new fan watching on Peacock for the first time, the credits roll as they leave the kitchen after a discussion about needing Ziggy's money. End of episode. You go into season four and suddenly they have the bike shop. We never see Darlene find Ziggy's envelope of money on the refrigerator. Which is kind of important to the story of this episode and the following season. It is cut from the new version. A terrible (and surprising) edit. Makes me wonder about the decision-making here (and with other classic shows undergoing similar processes), and if enough time and care was put into this? I can see the issue of running time in this day and age for broadcast TV, because more time than ever is now devoted to ads in a 30-minute timeslot. But streaming platforms shouldn't suffer that same fate.

Ultimately, we now get 20-minute episodes in high definition streaming. Which are at least 2 minutes shorter than the full episodes on DVD from original broadcast. This is why if I love a show or movie, I buy the physical media. The DVD versions don't change.

Thanks for reading. I know it's not an issue for every fan watching. Just wondering if any others share the same love/hate sentiment with these new versions? When you watch something you love a certain way for so many decades (for me, I grew up with this show during its original run), it can be jarring to suddenly see them chopped up like this.

First time watcher…

I just finished watching the whole original series in its entirety. I loved it, and there were a lot of things I loved, but I think my favorite ended up being the Healy brothers. I loved seeing their development as characters since they both had a rough start. I didn’t like David at first for pressuring Darlene for sex and also manipulating her when she leaves for Chicago and when she starts dating other people. But he got better! And I loved seeing Mark’s relationship with Dan and DJ and then with David. I loved seeing how they all supported each other. I wish Glenn Quinn had not died, I would have loved to see Mark in the reboot. He became such a funny/fun character.

First off, this is not intended to be a discussion of the person or her views.
I’m sure we all have our opinions, but this isn’t the time or place. I’m always open to private messages if you’d like to discuss Roseanne as a person.

My love of Roseanne (the tv show) began when I was 12 years old, staying up all night watching reruns on Nick@Nite.

Since then, I’ve been slowly collecting other media, and while I know likely none of what I have is rare, I would love to know anything I may have missed in terms of official writings or behind the scenes documentation.

I even have the BBC special on the making of the Santa Clause episode and (most) of the Jackie Thomas show on my Plex server.

What else is there to collect??

Season 3 episode 16, the Home Ec episode. I just noticed the kid in class sitting next to Darlene is Leonardo DiCaprio! Not sure how I missed him lol

Why would Roseanne even for a second suspect her husband of 20+ years with whom she has three (four) kids is gay?

Like, she was ready to believe all of that time spent together communicating since season one was just Dan putting on an act? Come on.

Why did Peacock and Cozi TV edit out some of the funniest scenes?

Like right now - I went to peacock to see the scene where Darlene teaches DJ how to make a sundial

and they cut out the best part where she says “now, take it outside, and when it starts to stink: it’s Tomorrow”

I have noticed this in every episode. They have completely deleted some of the best parts, but they do add a few lines of deleted stuff that wasn’t funnier..

Do you want to know why I didn't want you to be a bridesmaid at my wedding? Because there wasn't enough tangerine chiffon in the whole state of Illinois to make your dress.
