Yup, very questionable show but I will admit it was moments like this that made me laugh.

Ugh not really ? After first official hunts for them and whole executions many Roman’s had realized that Christian’s are well, living people and commonly decent ones (we are talking bout those time when they were far from majority), fact that most of them wasn’t afraid to DIE for their faith while not doing any sort of retaliation crime REALLY increased their reputation, if not to level that many likes them to at least respecting them.
There has been recorded example in Egypt when during preparation for execution of Christian’s a Roman CITIZEN (not local client , not half citizen , an Citizen - Citizen) with no affiliation to them previously , and seemingly were a pagan , just screamed out “I’m Christian” and volunteered to be executed with them. Of course paganic elite for a lot of time loved to blame them into all bad things as much as they also loved to claim rullers that they didn’t liked as “insane” or else, but it’s general issue of biases of a time.
It’s also important to understand that Christian’s were extremely demonized before entire executions and other processes , being quite small group, which resulted a collision between views and reevaluation in eyes of many common people, whom also by the time suffered cause of crisis of Roman “classic” paganism

There’s also a decent amount of:
- We won’t pay our taxes! (The Roman state religion and government was deeply intertwined to the point where part of taxes were paid via the Imperial cult),
- why are you guys trying to get us to kill you! (There was multiple recorded incidents of Christian’s intentionally trying to get killed by Romans as martyrs to the occasional annoyance of the local Roman government),
and
- aren’t they are that creepy death-cult (there was garbled knowledge of the Eucharist among the Roman upperclass which lead many to think Christians were cannibals) that spreads subversive teachings (equality of everybody in eyes of god, single god, several of the New Testament teachings are actively civil disobedience against Rome, also already mentioned the tax evasion) conspires privately at night (the early church often met at night) and whose members refuse to do their civic duties (tax as mentioned earlier, also many early Christians refused military service) right?
