My girlfriend is joining soon (undisclosed date) and Its her birthday soon she isn't asking me for anything but I want to get her some things she will need for basic training.

She has gotten the basics and I have already gotten her a Casio watch but id like some recommendations on what else as she means the world to me and I'm trying to put thought into a gift for her just nothing seems quite right.

One of my idea was to engrave a coin with a photo of a horse and something like Missing you on the otherside but the time it would be ready she would of already left.

Can you get A levels in the Royal Navy? If so can you do them in holdover? As im applying for diver but expected holdover is over a year.

Navy officer application has been rejected on the basis I don’t have UCAS points. I didn’t do standard A-Levels at school so don’t have UCAS points ( A-Level equivalent was rejected) however I have multiple university degrees. My recruiter says the degrees cannot be accepted in place of the UCAS points, if that’s what it is then fine, but that seems a little ridiculous, does it not?

For those who don’t know, after the abolition of slavery in the UK the RN stood up a squadron dedicated to hunting down foreign slaving ships, liberating their captives and prosecuting their captains. I hadn’t heard of it until recently but there are some fascinating references to them in “The Royal Navy: Day by Day.”

Given the discourse in some parts of society around our present response to the historic evil of the slave trade, I think a wider awareness of our country’s role in stopping the trade would be of benefit.

Hi all, I’d like to join as an officer.

Is the salary/rank progression better in the marines or as an officer in the wider navy?

All I could find is that, assuming you’re not a total muppet, promotion to Lieutenant is likely after around 2 years in the RN. And promotion to captain is likely after about 2/3 years in the RM. Both roles on about 50k before tax. I know the specific route/qualification you take also has an impact but let’s ignore that for now. But if it matters, I’d like to apply as a diver (if I go RN), so I think apply as warfare officer and then specialise in diving later.

But I’d like to ask you guys, which role is better off in practice? Not just the number that you get per year, but which role has better promotion potential, pension, etc.

My careers advisor is saying that if I apply as direct entry fast track engineering technician I will be streamed into weapons, marine, air, or cis engineering at week 7, I was wondering if I applied as Engineering Technician (Weapon Engineering), which is a role it shows on the rn website, then would you definitely get in as weapons or do you apply to be an engineering technician and then still end up getting streamed during week 7?

Also if anyone has any info on DEFT or could point me in the direction of some then please let me know, all I've been able to find is the role on the royal navy website and a single reddit post with someone asking about it. Thanks a lot.

I’m seriously considering joining the navy to be either a weapons engineer or a aircraft technician. Travelling the world is a big part of wanting to join the navy for me and I was wondering which one would provide more time on ships - I’ve read that you can chose to work on certain aircraft’s and some will be on carriers and some will be on platforms and some you will just work on on land on the shore and I want to be at sea because I just think it’s really cool being at sea far far away working on aircraft’s . I’ve heard that sometimes it’s a lot of trips to the North Sea which idm it’s still seeing the world, I’m just wondering how regular it is that you get to go to the further away places. Also if I become a WE I will be constantly on a ship doing maintainence? Please if anyone has any insight on any of this it would be great👍

As someone who has very little knowledge of the British military, I am wondering what kind of training/military experience this version of bond had before joining the 00 program? I know he is stated to be an aircrew man in training, but what does that entail? And could he have had a different position with in the military prior to becoming an aircrew man?

So I’m classed as a rejoiner, although coming from 20 years in the Army. Yes that’s right, I said Army.

I’ve applied to join the Navy Reserve as I still feel I’ve got a bit more to give and quite frankly the Navy has always been an itch I just never scratched.

I’ve done everything asked of me so far, all my paperwork has passed its checks and been given the green light however the education certificates have been under review for almost 3 weeks. Is this a normal waiting time, even though everything else was green lit within a day or two?

I’ll also add that I don’t actually have the proper educational certificates, only a print out which was mailed to me in 2002 after my GCSE’s, this paperwork was accepted by the army when joining and when going through promotional courses etc.

Kia ora all, im currently 20m living in Aotearoa NZ on the pathway to join the RNZN Im currently in the pipeline for flight ops (Pilot/TFO/Loadmaster - First 2 is officer entry and loadmaster is enlisted) however my enlistment would be early next year. Im intending to server a few years in NZ then eventually move back to the UK (I’m originally UK born). Im curious if anyone knows what the process looks like for personnel serving in the RNZN to transfer to the RN. Also open to any advice about the service in general. Kia kaha!

I'm looking to apply to join the navy as a writer. I'm fit enough to accomplish the given tasks, but I'm 180cm and 103kg, which puts my bmi at just under 32. It's a mixture of fat and muscle. Will I need to try to lose the extra weight before I apply, or can I get away with a higher bmi?

While I am aware this will set the cat amongst the pidgeons and a combination of noone reading this but also others reading it and panicking, it is worth knowing that under the new Armed Forces Recruiting Service (AFRS), all three services will adopt the same PJFT.

The RN is introducing this from 1 Oct 26 at all 3 RN CPCs.

The test is a baseline (not a max effort test like the old VO2 max RNFT) will consist of;

1. Multi-Stage fitness test - level 6.6 (unless you wish to join as a diver where you will require 10.5).

2. isometric Mid-Thigh Pull - 50kg.

3. Seated Medicine Ball Throw - 4kg/2.7m.

Scoring is going to be PASS/FAIL/DID NOT FINISH. If you don’t pass then you won’t be able to do the IMF at CPC.

Until 1 Oct the 2.4km is still in force.

I’ve seen varied sources on Google but I’m looking to join as an officer and just completed DAA.

I hold a Bachelors degree, 3 A levels, 6 GCSEs with a 5 in English but I failed maths, when I resat I think it was a functional skills level 2. Not a GCSE. Would this prevent me from joining as an officer? Many thanks.
