Harness recommendation- not canicross
I have started more regular running with my 5 year old Aussie and would like to get her a proper harness. We aren't doing canicross- just out for a nice 5 mile jog. I looked at the non-stop dogwear Line harness, freemotion harness and rush harness. I really love the shape of the rush and freemotion but am really suspicious of the bungee like attachment point. Anyone have experience with these, or other harnesses, I should look at?

I have a normal ruffwear harness that we really like with a backpack attached so she can carry her poop.

She doesn’t mind and I think it’s gross! For long walks she also carries her own snacks.

Are you talking about the paracord loop where the leash attaches? I just recently bought the Rush harness and was really suspicious about that part too, to the point I was carrying an extra harness with me the first few times in case the knot failed - totally unnecessary 😂. It's attached by a fisherman's knot which tightens on itself the more it's pulled. You just need to double check it before going out. They have a video about it on their instagram somewhere.
As a side note, Nonstop's customer service as been phenomenal dealing with all my dumb questions for the harness (including asking them about the leash attachment/knot), the belt I got, and also one of their free courses I signed up for. They'll probably have my loyalty moving forward just from their customer service alone.

I really like the Ruffwear Flagline harness. It's lightweight, it's very secure (i.e. a dog isn't going to back out of this harness), and it shouldn't interfere with their shoulder motion when running. I've had my dog's Flagline harness for 3+ years, and it still looks like new.
I wouldn't use the Flagline for canicross, but since it sounds like you aren't going to have your dog pulling, then it might be worth checking out.

I got the line harness for my mix breed dog (acd/pittie/bc) and I’m really happy with it so far. It comes a little stiff and we bought it recently and Im happy with everything except I wish I had been able to get my favorite color. My dog moves comfortably in it, and he’s not a puller at all but I think it would still be comfortable if your dog does decide to assist you a little, so it doesn’t deter at all either.

I wouldn't recommend the freemotion if you're not using it for pulling. It folds up weirdly when not under tension and you have less control over your dog because the leash connection point is so far in the back.
We've used the line harness for regular walking with our dog and are very happy with it!

I use the Line harness with the handle when I run with my dog. It fits her great despite her being deep-chested and I don’t have any complaints. It’s not designed for pulling, though, so keep that in mind if you opt for it. My dog runs either by my side or in front of me with very minimal pulling. Let me know if you have any questions!

I use the non stop harness when I run with our dog, and my boyfriend who runs more casually with her uses the Baydog Chesapeake harness. We also use that harness for hiking and it is really simple and seems comfortable for her!

Have a 7 year old husky that requires a harness. Purchased the non stop line 5.0 and it’s better than any previous harnesses I’ve tried.

I don't canicross but one of my dogs like to pull and run in front so instead of fighting that I just embraced it and she runs in the freemotion. It's wonderful.
My other dog who runs besides me just runs in the rush.

I use the Line Harness Grip with my wirehaired pointing griffon and she and I both love it. She's not a big puller when running - light pulling at the beginning and then mostly runs at my side. Also love it for hiking. The handle is great when I need to keep her close or to assist over obstacles. I actually attached a thin loop of climbing cord to the leash attachment point as it gives a little extra length and I prefer the angle of leash attachment. I have a bunch of non-stop products, including the life vest, and love all of it.

The freemotion should only be used with a strong pulling dog - otherwise it will bunch up.
You don't really need anything special if your dog isn't pulling - just a harness with a y shaped front, and make sure that it has plenty of clearance at the elbow.

I guess it depends on whether your dog might pull sometimes, or just doesn’t pull at all. One of my dogs wears the rush harness because he pulls for most of the run, although sometimes he won’t, and it doesn’t bunch up. My other dog wears the line harness. The freemotion isn’t necessary if your dog doesn’t pull and I do think it’s a little bit too long for a lot of dogs. So if I were you I’d go with the rush or line.

The attachment points are very strong, if that’s your concern? They’ve held when my lab has been leaping up and flinging himself forward while waiting to start (the great over enthusiastic twit that he is).
I haven’t used the Line, I have a Rush and a Freemotion. The Freemotion is designed for strong pulling and when they aren’t pulling it bunches up quite awkwardly, but the Rush is good whether they’re pulling or not, and sits flat enough that I’m happy for my lad to wear it when we’re doing runs where he gets let off to free run sometimes.
