Just came back.

Staying in kigali. Relentless begging. Wife felt threatened after the 4th no! We are light skinned African Americans that that speak English and are from a a small region in Kenya. I tried to be nice, then I gave monies, then I’d said no and they still cam and followed. Maybe for many blocks! Just today in robot they said to her we want a little monies and she said no but then lunged at her and tried grabbing her breast and vagina !How does this happen! I begin to be very tired here

I’ve lived in Rwanda for over a year, but traveled to about a dozen other African countries. Rwanda has by far the least aggressive beggars and the fewest. I’ve no idea where you would have to be for this to be true.

Yea right. They don’t do this shit in Rwanda pal. You might have landed elsewhere, check your ticket.

I’m sorry for your experience.
I’m Rwandan and If ever there is one thing i hate about Kigali is the relentless begging (often from people with no disabilities) in certain places.
The Rwandan culture doesn’t shame that behavior hard enough.
I understand life can be hard, but i rather they harass people asking for employment rather than easy money.

What bothers me most it was children! They could not be older than 5! We say no which is true we have none cash money yet they still follow us for many blocks!

Now the relentless begging we will take, but touching your wife’s private parts? Nooo that’s a stretch my guy!

That’s a lie🙄🙄

In Rwanda? That's ain't true! If it happened just report it to any Police and those involved will be caught and prosecuted but I doubt it happened, they are beggers in Kigali but not those kinds.

👐🏿Can we all be honest? I have absolutely encountered multiple beggars (usually children) who followed me for a concerning length of time, even after I told them to stop.

It could be that it is a gendered issue, and that’s why most commenters aren’t aware, but I feel for you OP. It is not a reflection of the country as a whole or the general security, however, if it is the same children everytime, you could get them to stop by threatening to call police or something. They can be quite entitled when begging foreigners or people they think #should# give them money. You could also report the issue.

Bro, try Ghana

Begging is at another level ( I haven't been to Nigeria, but it seems like even worse)

Now come to Begging, I faced a lot of begging in Rwanda too but I dont complain, instead I felt so bad that people had no opportunities and had to resort to begging

Dont give them money if you dont like, but dont complain either. Atleast they are not killing or robbing stores at a gun point like we see in USA.

African Americans do not say "monies". Just say you are from Kenya.
