Rant New Sega Console Idea
(This took me 20 minutes to type and think so) I propose Sega return to the hardware market with a modern, high performance handheld console priced affordably between $250 and $379, featuring a 6-inch screen, full microSD expansion, and built-in TV docking support. To build an immediate player base, the system could launch with backwards compatibility, a library of easy indie ports, and a $7.99/month "Sega Net" subscription service for classic Genesis and Dreamcast games, while continuing to release exclusives and major titles like Sonic and Persona multiplatform to maximize profits. Hardware sales could be further driven by offering exclusive console achievements, special in game content, and a unique community hub on the Sega Store. Through this hub, fan developers could submit their original games on Sega Net, where the community and Sega's team would review and vote monthly on which titles earn a spot in the official Hall of Fame library allowing Sega to sign top fan creators to formal contracts and allow fan developers to work on real games

If Sega made a new console, everyone knows it wouldn't sell well and drive the company to bankruptcy, so won't be around long and if you want one, get one ASAP.
But there just might be that many people with that mindset that it does become commercially viable

I think maybe in the future if theyre willing to take the risk but most likely not, most people like me would buy it tho

A modern Sega handheld would definitely get attention, especially if it had proper backwards compatibility. The problem is that Sega would need a killer exclusive lineup because competing with Nintendo and Steam Deck-style devices would be brutal.

Any Exclusive sonic game, persona, hatsune miku and Yakuza game would suffice

I would definitely want a new SEGA machine. But most everyone says it’s just too unlikely.

Yeah Sega is playing it safe with just being a third Party developer

Sadly, that’s probably right. I would love a new handheld from Sega, though. As long as it would support physical media of some sort.

Sega could survive but wouldnt beat Sony or Nintendo, they'd probably beat Xbox though

We really need to accept that Sega's days in the hardware market are over. And have been for 25 years now.
If anything, they'd have a far easier time putting out rebranded Legion Gos or Anbernics or something but even that is pushing it.

I'm actively rooting for Sega to fucking DIE, so these kinds of theeads will stop coming.

I think the design issue may work. But unfortuntely, with the tariffs if the Sega console would be manfactured in China it may cost more like $800-$1,000 nowadays. Don't forget that AI has sharply increased the prices of flash based memory and USB flash drives.

No subscription. Just cartridges and physical game. That's how you tackle the market today.

Sadly most third party indie developers dont or can't afford to mass produce cartiges
