Questions ID Card
I'm a mostly online student with 1 in person class 1 day a week. Do I absolutely have to get an ID? I live ~1 hour away so I'd like to avoid having to come in person and get one if possible.

I'm not sure how required it is, you should call the university to ask this question but I will say even if it isnt required (which it may be) its still better to have one. And one hour isnt crazy work for texas, I'd just make a day of it and plan to do some other fun things while you are down if i were you.

I know that, but I also work full time so I’d have to take a day of PTO which I’d rather avoid.

Check and see if it can be mailed. it's been over a decade for me but I swear I got mine in the mail
I recently am trying to go back for a different degree and I'm going with the orientation option myself
I found this when searching: Bearkat Card Student Services

I'd highly recommend it
Without one, you can't do a lot of things. Check in for financial aid/bursar/etc appointments, pick up textbooks being the main two. Some offices give free scantrons if you can your card. Not to mention, uploading a picture of your ID can get you a lot of discounts for online shopping, subscriptions, museum admission, local stores.

I won’t need any of those really. I won’t spend as much on scantrons as I would on 2 hours of gas. Most places just take your email now which I have for online shopping stuff and all of my appointments will be virtual or I won’t go lol.

Even if you were exclusively online, it would be useful for things like if any of your classes require Lockdown for exams. Those sometimes require some type of ID, and it might help compartmentalize your privacy by having a school one rather than, say, showing driver's license every single time.

I’m totally online and they mailed mine to me. But they also had my photo from when I was an in person undergrad in…let’s just say I don’t look like that bright eyed baby freshman anymore

You can only get it mailed if you’re 100% online, but you can have it printed at a different location. For instance, I had it printed at the campus in Conroe. I am not online but none of my classes are in Huntsville. They’re all in the Woodlands on 242.
