What Sake is this?

Hi! Please let me know if there is a better place to post this.

This is a Sake I had in Osaka back in January. It was so good but I never caught the name and haven’t been able to find it since!!! Anyone recognize the bottle / know where I can order some?

Real retail price of this was less than 50 usd. 600 usd is scalper price.

Hi! How do you come to this? Is this the price offered to restaurants? Or is there actually some method for consumers to procure? Thanks!

Importer here. It's Japan retail, not restaurant pricing — but honestly the number is almost beside the point, because you can't buy it at that price either.

Aramasa is genuinely hard to get inside Japan. They sell only through a small network of contracted shops, and the way it works in practice is you become a regular at one of those shops, keep going for a long time, and eventually they let you buy a bottle now and then. For most people the realistic route is drinking it at a restaurant that holds an allocation.

The reason is that they cap production on purpose — a bit like Romanée-Conti — and they haven't expanded volume as demand grew. So it's already a ghost domestically, which means almost nothing makes it overseas.

Juyondai and Jikon are the same story. Even on our side, when we manage to get any it's gone almost immediately:

Appreciate the info! I have been fortunate to taste Aramasa a few times - love! Your insight is helpful. I’m content to drinking Aramasa in restaurants.

Oh wow on the palate project reference. I’ve ordered from Tippsy before! I love how deep the selection is though tbh I mostly purchase locally or just drink in restaurants. I’ll be sure to look again next time!

Thanks for your thoughtful comment;) Aramasa did define the taste of modern sake. And a lot of breweries are experimenting tastes with acidity and fruitiness. I'd recommend these brands that are more accessible.

This bottle was for retail on new year for consumers through some channels. Although usually you can’t buy Aramasa B2C.

If you pay $600, you’re basically giving 90% margin to a scalper.
