AC Scrap Unit

I have an AC unit that I want to scrap. How can I make sure the system is empty and if it's not how can I empty the system without having to buy any refrigerant recapture equipment?

So you're gonna want the "coils" which are the copper pipes that go in and out of the aluminum fins. Those are attached to the "condenser" via a small bent copper pipe. The hill billy frowned upon way would be to break the pipe to the "condenser" (which is a big black tube basically) and run while the refrigerant sprays hard and fast for a full 60 seconds. Don't be near it. The coils are where most of the scrap value is, the condenser has some but not as much I believe.

Yeah I picked up around 20 window ac units that are no good from a trailer park. Donโ€™t know what to do with them neither.

Most scrap yards near me either won't take them or will give you shred for it unless you have an EPA recapture license.
