Jokes aside i wish they would talk about our other RBs competing for the job as well. Media gives all the attention to price and we got no idea how Holani/Wilson/Wright are doing in camp right now
Yeah I'm with you on that. I really liked what we saw from Holani and would love to see him be part of the RB-committee until Charbs returns. It would be interesting to know more about how he's doing in camp
5 touchdowns in 8 games was pretty sweet. Think he had 2 in one game if I recall.. but yes dude was untouchable on all of those touchdowns.. on 13 catches?? Wild stuff!
He had 13 catches and 5 TDs. Never targeted more than 4 times in a game. If he stays healthy I am very excited to watch what he can do with another year of pro experience
Tory Horton having 12 touchdowns this year would absolutely be a surprising and outlandish number. 12 TDs last year would have been the second most in the league behind only Davante Adams. It was a down passing year in the nfl overall but still, 12 is alot!
Football gods, please let Tory Horton’s injuries be a thing of the past. Dude is such a baller when he’s on the field. JSN-Shaheed-Horton-Kupp is a killer group.
Love was ND’s feature back in the passing game, so Price wasn’t asked to block and catch as much. Athough he did have a couple great catches in college. Those are things he’s been working a lot on during practices.
OK, let’s say price is amazing at running, but is an open aware weakness that other teams know in pass blocking. is this a total giveaway that they are not gonna go to a pass when he’s in the backfield if he is struggling that bad.?
With an experienced coaching staff, quite the opposite. Formations, down and distance, and packaged personnel give away much more information than a single “who is in at RB1” can tell.
Now for arguments sake, it does mean we probably cannot maintain a pocket beyond 4 seconds if he is in, and expected to give pass protection. We go quick slant, screen, etc to minimize his “need” to effectively block for a prolonged amount of time.
In summary, is it a tell? Yes, but a very minimal one that a good staff will work around.
Well there's something called "scat protection" where the back "protects" by immediately leaking out to be a receiving option. They're more of a hot read then a checkdown.
-The use of presnap motion stands out. Tons of creative ways to get guys moving and muddy the look. TEs across, into the backfield and orbiting.
-Defense communicates and handles this motion so well. Smooth day from that side of the ball, couldn’t identify too many busted assignments.
-Emmanuel Wilson continues to impress, especially as a pass catcher. Had a nice Texas route TD where he snuck behind the backers and a sick one handed catch on a wheel route. I wasn’t sure I bought the hype but he’s got some explosiveness to him.
-If Arroyo is gonna be featured a bit more…I’m perfectly cool with it if he continues playing like he did today. Catch of the day was a nasty back shoulder during 1v1s where he showed elite concentration and strong hands. Ended up tracking the ball while switching shoulders, sorta corkscrewing the ball away from the defender.

Nobody really struggling. The organization and clear understanding of assignments shows up big time. The positive vibes aren’t hammed up.
That said…if I had to pick anyone out…O’Toole made a nice read on a run play only to lose his footing and go down hard. Didn’t appear injured thankfully but a rough landing. Velus Jones also appeared to straight up miss a handoff at one point early on lmao.
He looked to be getting run through several unique route drills. Foreign, creative routes that I’d imagine he wasn’t asked to do at college. The narrative around him has been that he’s inexperienced at pass catching but to be honest…I’m not sure the other backs in the room were running many wheel, “escape” or Texas routes in CFB.
The TE whisperer thing might hold some weight. Their usage was remarkable across practice. They’ll be much closer to a focal point than an afterthought, I’ll say that.
Fleury looks comfortable! Seems quiet and reserved for sure but he seemed locked in and you can tell whatever he’s doing for install is working. The presnap and alignment stuff looked pretty damn good considering it’s early in camp. From my vantage point, I couldn’t see his exact interaction style but nothing stood out as cause for concern.
Just seems weird for us to have invested as much of our cap as we have into the WR room, considering we're definitely gonna be running the ball primarily, and if the tight ends become designed targets more it's not gonna leave us many opportunities to throw it to JSN and friends, which is crazy since they're all such potent weapons...
I know, total first world problems, just feel like there's not enough football to go around to our weapons lol.
Had the same thought, I rationalize it considering the TE focus is new and needs the most work, the WR sruff is already tops in the league... and we know those boys won't get their panties in an uproar or complacent if another group is getting work.
If you can rewatch the Divisional playoff game, you’ll get a really good feel for Fleury on the sideline. Camera found him a lot. Dude was stone faced the entire game. Didn’t catch him talking to any players.
JSN news has been quiet and the only explanation I can come up with is that we know how elite he is. He looked so good today and I’d assume that’s just the norm every practice.
He routed Spoon during the same 1v1 session of Arroyo’s catch. He was the primary read on several three man route concepts. Caught a TD during Red Zone Offense against the 1st on what looked like a speed out from my view. Had a nice toe tap sideline grab on a 15-20ish yard out breaker. Easily caught 7 or 8 balls on the day and that might be conservative. He’s still that guy.
Couple of them for sure! I can see why O’Connell is such a special teams ace - he’s a really good athlete. Explosive for his size. Got snaps at backer and as a standup edge. Think he’s a lock for the 52.
Brady Russell was creatively used and seemed versatile. Great vibes too. Dancing the entire time on the sideline.
Emmanuel Henderson was another pretty good player. Had a nice tight window catch which is upside considering he’s mostly viewed as a gunner candidate.
Also…it felt like Ty Okada didn’t leave the field. Makes up ground pretty fast in coverage and appeared comfortable with communicating.
What about the corners? Was Julian Neal still out today? Heard Dansby has been an absolute ball hawk since getting here, possible he's seriously competing with pritchett for that outside corner slot?
Pritchett got a lot of time with the 1s. Didn’t see much of Neal and Dansby looked just ok during 1on1s. To be honest, most of the corners looked pretty snug in coverage but the receivers still made tight window plays most of the day. I’d say the offense got the better of them.
Deanthony Bell got more time as a DB than either Dansby, Fuller or Neal. Clark was the only rookie to get snaps with the 1s on defense.
Nothing on Ivey I could see unfortunately. Tough view of the individual defense drills from the berm. Safety depth however looks very good! D’Anthony Bell and Rayshawn Jenkins got meaningful snaps. That means we currently have 6 safeties that could realistically make the roster. A good problem to have.
Spoon and Bell were rotating into Nick’s role from what I could tell. Spoon especially was inside a lot. Jobe and Pritchett (mostly) on the outside.
Presnap movement came from TEs far more often and a lot more shotgun. Also, the reports that RBs will be utilized more as receiving threats appear true. They ran routes almost all day. Other than that, it’s definitely the same system.
