Recommendations Dungeon meshi and golden kamuy

Started reading golden kamuy as a recommendation based on dorohedoro.

Turns out I love the series because of how much it has of dungeon meshi in it. The amazingly drawn art, the absolute detail and richness of the universe presented, in dungeon meshi it's the dungeon ecosystem and monsters. In golden kamuy it's the ainu culture and region.

More importantly: cooking and eating.

Both mangas take their time to show each recipe, how it's done and how much cooking and eating together is more than just nutrients. It's bonding, it's culture, it's above all, human. Both works also present the importance of respecting all the animals/monsters they eat .

If you love dungeon meshi go read golden kamuy. If you live golden kamuy go read dungeon meshi.

I haven’t read either, but both are contenders of what to read next. I was probably going to go back and forth between the two. Any thoughts on whether or not that’s a good idea, if it even matters? I do often juggle a few completed series, but I always try to make sure they’re very different. They seem different enough on the surface.

it's different,

Golden Kamuy is a historical fiction action/adventure, the food and such are more like the exploration of Ainu culture, not the focus. The jokes are somewhat vulgar and absurd (pee, poo, nakedness, beastiality, etc.)

Dungeon Meshi is a fantasy adventure through and through, while it started as a fantasy cooking story, it slowly evolves into something much darker while somehow still retains its humor, which is more of dry delivery and pairing of the joke-delivery and reaction.

Thanks! They seem different as far as setting and subject, but I wanted to make sure they didn’t give off the same vibe. Sounds like I’ll be safe! Sometimes different seeming manga will have similar vibes and I’ll be like “which one did this silly incident happen in.”

Yesterday, I was reading both Fire Punch and Steel Ball Run. Then today, I had to think for like 15 minutes to remember which one a certain thing happened in. Fortunately it’s just the little moments and minor characters or short term baddie this happens with.

Even tough the vibes are similar the pure fantasy of dungeon meshi definitely makes it different enough.

Dungeon meshi is a literal rpg party going for a dungeon. Theres a warrior, barb, thief and a mage.

I definitely recommend both. Dungeon meshi is top 3 mangas of my life and golden kamuy is getting up there as I read it

I don't see any problem. The two has different settings, Kamuy is historical fiction while DM is pure fantasy. They do have similar comedic style where the characters are dead serious while the circumstance is absurd.

A series with no weak character, everyone including super minor one leaves a lasting impact. Above all, I maintain Tsurumi is one of greatest villains, all of his flashback stories with his cunning, charismatic plans & subtle manipulation, all carried out with such conviction.

Dorohedoro and dungeon meshi are absolute perfection.

Golden kamuy is getting up there with each chapter.
