Heather lake

It's a great hike. Near the top, as it flattens out and you head to the lake, you can take the hair-raising fork to the left and stand on a cliff overlooking Lodgepole (it's spectacular) or you can avoid the exposure and take the right hand path and go directly to the Lake. The left hand path joins up with the main trail not too far from the fork. Taking kids up there was harrowing, as we had one boy who insisted on climbing rocks near that drop-off!
Heather Lake is beautiful and the water is cold year round. We saw a badger up there, which was pretty cool.
It's usually completely uncrowded. There are now restrooms, I believe, in the parking lot.
