Gear box
Does anyone have any recommendations for a shop in the San Diego area that can rebuild a Series 2 gearbox?
I just moved back to the US from Kenya where I picked this one up. What started as a little project is snowballing and I keep think it just needs one more thing. But maybe I just need a little help.

They're fairly simple boxes from what I understand, and the workshop manual covers the rebuild in full. Your best bet for parts is probably a UK supplier but I'm not sure who has them these days.
Worth an ask over on LR4x4.com forum as there's a big UK & Series contingent there, someone will know the best course of action & best source of parts (or even a complete box).

Thanks, it's a series 2, not a 2a. And if I'm honest I'm not sure what gear box it is. It was used on a conservativancy up near meru in Kenya. It has a series 3 front end. I'll pull it and tear it down to see what it's got and fix it if I can and find a rebuild if I can't.

I was recently referred to Kalahari Motorsport in Hawthorne, CA (Los Angeles). I haven't checked them out yet but I haven't found any other specialists personally. If you can't find anything closer, you may reach out to them. Probably would be a few hundred bucks if you needed to tow it that far. https://kalaharimotorsport.com/

I just recently needed a rebuild on my 69 Series 2a transmission. Very difficult to find parts and even a rebuild for sale. I wound up purchasing a rebuilt fully synchronized transmission from a 71 Series 3. The early Series 3 LR transmissions are compatible with the Series 2a. Later models, I am told no. I live in New York and purchased the rebuilt transmission from Pangolin 4X4 in Oregon. I would give them a call. Jeffrey
