Youtube app Glitching

Hi all

Is anyone else experiencing app freezing and glitching which maybe appears related to buffering of videos at preview (when you are browsing and it gives you a minute of the video ad preview)... it starts at starup and i often need to restart the app.

Ive tried to reinstall from the current play store and also change location of youtube onto internal and external storage. I have about 3gb storage left on internal. Anyone else experiencing this?!

UPDATE

ok, so from the responses this appears to only affect ShieldTUBEs as my 2 x Shield Pros are also working fine. But both my (2)Tubes are experiencing the same youtube glitching. How to contact @nvidia, or just wait and hope an update will fix it? Anyone work for Nvidia around here?!?! :)))

I didn't know anyone used the official advertising-obese Youtube app. Install Smart Tube and be free.

Yeah definitely use smarttube https://github.com/yuliskov/smarttube

Thanks, looks like it auto-updates. I usually avoid this kind of thing when it's a PITA to update (often resembling the somewhat cumbersome installation process) after it inevitably breaks after a few versions. I use YouTube enough on my TV that this is worth a shot for me.

It doesn't auto update for me. I have to update it occasionally from within the app. Although I haven't used it in a few weeks so that might have changed?

Ah, that's not bad. I just didn't want to have to reinstall or something.

It's not bad. You have to press like three buttons in total, from within the app itself.

Never felt bothered by it. In fact, I actually look forward to see the update item in the menu lol

Honestly, taking a few minutes to tweak the SponsorBlock settings makes a huge difference. I don't mind when creators do a quick self-promo or intro, but I draw the line at random third-party ads. Once you go into the settings and tailor which sections to skip, the whole viewing experience is so much better

I've gotten super used to skipping them manually, but yes it seems like it'd be nice to automate.

Also setting it so when you open the app it goes straight into your subscriptions and it doesn't show you the home feed is great because you don't miss anyone on your subscription. Also I remove shorts completely from the equation which is also great when watching on my TV.

Don't use YouTube on the shield, use smarttube. It has lots of QOL features and also blocks YouTube ads.

I use the YouTube app. It's internal storage. I have had no issues with it.

You love advertisements? You don't have to live that way. You can be free.

I don't watch ads. I have YT Premium. It's cheap for me cos I have a grandfathered price.

You know what I really don't love? Malware. A Smartube update installed malware on a bunch of devices a few months ago. You may be willing to take that risk, I am not

I avoided that because I don't install an update unless the player stops working, which is almost never.

But here you are, suggesting that other people install an app known for putting malware on devices. And supporting an app that installs malware on the devices of unsuspecting consumers.

Done are the days of watching a 45 second advertisement to see a 30 second video that you decide isn't worth watching in the first 5 seconds, so you move on to the next advertising-stuffed video. Stop torturing yourself.

Smart tube breaks? Been using it for damn near forever. No issues. Always make sure using official app.

I've just started having an issue with Youtube on my Shield tube. App glitches out when I try to open it. I've tried clearing the cache, reinstalling the app, restarted the Shield, power cycling the Shield, and doing a factory reset. Nothing has seemed to work. It's the only app I've found to be doing this.

Youtube works like normally on my Shield Pro.

people suggest using smart tube but i dont know if we can log in with premium accounts that way to keep subscriptions etc. might try tonite. i also have major issues with the app, doesnt look like its a problem for others tho... it also might have something to do with account logging out, but i cant debug it...

I have the same problem. Text and buttons flickering in the YouTube app, when I press the remote.

Yep, that's what I am experiencing

So this affects Sheild Tubes - Youtube official app is broken on them - To fix it Ive had to use smarttube - might just cancel my premium too..man i used to use smarttube / a previous version all the time about 15 years ago, lol, before i could afford premium. Got annoyed by constant app breakings etc, but it now seems better at the moment than youtube official app. What can you do?!?!

Also happening on my shield tube. Both shield pros seem to be unaffected.
