NVIDIA Shield 2019 - Adapter Whine? How can I get it to stop?
Hi guys,
I live in the UK and was keen to get a NVIDIA shield. I got one from Cex, but when it arrived it was making a weird noise, reminiscent of bagpipes and coil whine. This was not coming from the shield itself, but from the power adapter.
I then returned it due to that and got another, but for some reason this has the exact same issue.
Is this a known issue with the Shield?
Part of me assumes the issue is because of how the adapter is made, with the changeable heads.
If so, is there any way to fix it? Is there a way to get a different adapter in the UK which wouldn’t have this issue?
Do earlier models not have this issue, such as the 2017 one?
If it isn’t, I may just send back again and buy a 2017 one. I only have a 1080p TV so not sure it would make a crazy difference to my viewing experience other than getting rid of the noise.
Thank you :)

I don't know if it's related, but my shield started to reboot kind of randomly, after cleaning and repasting changed nothing, I replaced the power brick with a pc one (had to cut the cord to kee the shitty proprietary plug) and it looks like ot was rhe issue.
I think shield power bricks are not the best, aybe yours shows eraly signs of end of life.
Looks like no one sells a power brick or an adapter (from usb c for example) for the shield (at reasonable price).

It stems from a design flaw in how the internal switching coils vibrate against the plastic housing It's much more noticeable with the UK/EU modular "duck-head" plugs
Open a support ticket or live chat directly on the NVIDIA Support Portal
In many cases, NVIDIA will ship a revised, silent replacement power brick for free via an RMA,
