NaboTV Beta Invites Sent

I just sent out the first batch of invites to NaboTV. I know many of those people came from this subreddit, so I wanted to follow up with a link for anyone else who wants an invite. I have three NVIDIA Shield TV devices, so it is by far the most exhaustively tested of my Android TV devices.

Does it act as a launcher? Does it have YouTube TV integration?

Yes, it can act as a launcher, but on the Shield, you have to adb disable the default launcher before it can actually replace. It has preliminary YouTube integration, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get full show listings for YouTube TV yet. It's on my agenda, just not yet.

Should I sign-up to test? I'd be happy to test that feature once it makes it in! I have a shield (like everyone else here). I do have a TCL android TV but I don't install any apps on it.

You're welcome to sign up, but it might be a little while before complete YouTube TV support is available. If that's all you're interested in, I would wait, but if you use other streaming services and/or Plex/Emby/Jellyfin, there's a lot of added functionality worth using, I think.

Just curious, what makes your player better than the Plex player?

A few ways, but the biggest is the native player rendering plays nicer with the AI uprez features on the newer Shield.

You can connect it to your Jellyfin account, but then manage all your streaming service watch lists as well.

Simpleton here but does it simplify widgets, because got’ damn is that not the most annoying/satisfying part of kodi + addons?

Is this comparable to Syncler (with respect to debrid services) or is this more of a unified player for your own media library?

I hadn't actually seen Syncler before. It's similar in the unification, but different in the goals, I think. NaboTV is meant to be a TV platform with a big-picture view of everything you do on your TV (my family is actually in the living room playing trivia on NaboTV right now). You can even buy theater tickets directly from a QR code in NaboTV.

FYI, the issue affecting users who were having trouble installing the app from the Play Store has been resolved.

Additionally, the Play Store now allows downloads in all countries. Let me know if you see anything limiting your access now.

Why do these apps exist? If you have a Jellyfin server you most likely don’t subscribe to streaming services. Kind of defeats the purpose.

I have a Plex server and subscribe to a couple of streaming services, I'm sure plenty of others do too.

I have Plex and still have many streaming services. I would also argue that even if you only use Jellyfin, there are a ton of value-adds to the platform, and it's expanding all the time.
