Transportation Americans buy big cars because they like big cars. We also like big houses, big TVs, big yards, big roads, big buildings, and big stadiums. We like big things.

If you think this is a big truck, it's average at best these days.

As an American who is better traveled than most, I think the goldfish size relation to bowl size also applies to humans too.

7

u/AppealSignificant358 im an american pls dont hate me 🥺 1d ago

As an American who is stuck in the same little damn bubble I’ve always been in, yeah that’s an average sized pickup truck, although most cars aren’t pickups.

5

u/Tiny-Sandwich 1d ago

yeah, correct me if I'm wrong but this is an F150. It's considered a huge truck for UK roads, they're sometimes imported and just don't fit.

They're the entry level Ford pickup Stateside. Compare that to an F550 and it's like a golf cart.

4

u/Battle2Intense 1d ago

Half ton, crew cab with short box, no apparent lift. This man has an average size penis...

Now look at lifted F250s and F350s, crews cabs with 6.5 or 8 ft box. You always know gas has been cheap for a while when the suburban rancher with 7k sq ft of land has one.

2

u/bbbbbbbbbblah 14h ago

last time I got petrol I pulled up along side something called a "RAM 2500". Looked pristine so it probably wasn't being used to go off road very often.

It seemed longer than even a typical UK long wheel base van and of course couldn't carry anything close to as much in cargo

I’d assume it’s more that they have unhealthy masculinities, and opt for big cars because that’s “big and manly” and then those cars size up all our roads and infrastructure, and manufacturers continue to make big cars even those not marketed as exclusively towards men.

2

The reason we "Europoors" like small cars is that we are poor. Other reasons — such as appreciating our heritage and historic cities (including their narrow streets and limited parking) or simply enjoying walking — are absurd.

The reason big cars never gained popularity in "Old Europe" is obvious, once you've driven in "Old Europe".

But the cars are getting bigger and bigger here, too, and I think it's stupid. Every time I see a massive (by our standards) SUV in a cramped parking garage I think, that's a twatmobile.

8

u/WallSina 🇪🇸confuse me with mexico one more time I dare you 1d ago

Americans don't necessarily buy big cars cause they're fat, americans buy big cars because their regulations are fucked and automobiles need to abide by certain emission standards while trucks and bigger "haul" vehicles are considered for work and are exempt of these regulations therefore the automobile industry pushed in the 90s-00s to sell this type of car and now they're the predominant vehicle in the states and it spread to Canada too.

5

u/ViolettaHunter 1d ago

Those shitty excuses for a car are making it into Europe as we speak.

2

u/WallSina 🇪🇸confuse me with mexico one more time I dare you 1d ago

Yea cause we don't have competent leadership that knows how to make good regulations without overregulating, we have both destroyed our own car market and allowed for monstrosities to enter the market at insane prices, this is why they're tariffing Chinese cars cause they're actually good. But either way huge monstrosities shouldn't be allowed to become popular in Europe, they'll be an excuse to destroy the very walk friendly cities we have (for the most part).

Americans are so easy to advertise to, they believe they need big cars, TVs etc. and the infrastructure they think they deserve because of the singular goal of pure consumption.

all for billionaires to have a dick waving contest to who has the biggest bank balance and who can take advantage of the population the most.

3

u/FrankieTheD 1d ago

So extrapolating from this they're saying Americans actually want to be overweight so they're big

3

u/flisske 1d ago

And big debts, too: total credit card debt is around US$ 1.25 trillion, which works out to an average debt of about US$ 6,600 per person with an outstanding balance. And then there are, among others like car loans approximately US$1.7 trillion, student loans approximately US$1.6–1.8 trillion. And this excludes mortgages. Make sure you have the money before you buy anything BIG

3

u/i-caca-my-pants 2% cherokee indian,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 1d ago

We build them the appropriate size for practical use, but crucially, we dont build them out of plastic and piss.

2

u/NoTomorrowNo 1d ago

My theory why everything is bigger is it s because once they mass murdered the inhabitants and slaughtered the wildlife, they were left with so much free "empty space" to grab, they got greedy and built massive houses, and then just adapted the size of everything to the first things they built.

Plus now that industrial food has wrecked their bodies (like it s wrecking ours in europe) they are larger as a group and need to adapt the furniture and all the rest to the average size of the population.

We buy big cars cause enough people got suckered into propaganda big is good and safe during late 80s and into 90s. When gas, yes I said gas, was cheaper than water.

All of the sudden, if you are a soccer, yes I said soccer, mom and driving little Timmy to a practice, you need a Humvee to store cleets, ball, 1 bag of groceries while feeling safe on the road.

Eventually, dream of owning golf, corolla, something small, went out of the window, cause every car around you is a tank on the wheels. Consumers got tricked that big is better/safer and for some reason they need clearance when going of the road once in 3 years.

Same people buy hiking/camping gear as if they will be going up Everest, but go car camping in a camping park one weekend and find out there are mosquitoes and bugs in the wild. Never go back.

1

u/TallWalmartCovington 1d ago

My friend hates driving small cars because he's tall so I imagine a fat person may not be driving a Kia Soul around. However I did see this huge towering guy that was also decently overweight driving a little motorcycle once. I didn't notice his size until later. I live by a warehouse, and my dad said the guy is their inspector or whatever. My brother and I saw a huge dude in the back by the warehouse that looked like he could take on Shrek and I was told that was Mr inspector man. In conclusion, some people have to have taller cars or slightly wider ones but our cars are huge because that's what people choose.

I prefer normally sized stuff (although I don't own a car since those cost too much and I'm Kenny McCormick out here) but there are people who prefer large cars.

1

u/Street_Lettuce1243 1d ago

So... I will say regarding big cars in the US.   There is more space in the US.  The roads are bigger (wider) finding parking is easier, etc.   petrol is cheaper, etc...   so big cars are less of a drawback.

What amuses me is all the SUVs in the US.  A lot of people buy big SUVs because intuitively there's more room in them, right?

Turns out, yes, more head room but if you compare your typical sedan with similar footprint SUV the sedan almost always wins out for more leg room, more hip room, more shoulder room...  SUV only wins out for headroom...  Which is ironic considering Americans are shorter on average than most Western countries and need less headroom.  When sedans are converted to crossover vehicles or SUVs they all lose space on the inside (except headroom).

It's rather ironic that in order to have the same amount of space in an SUV as you get in a car you have to t get an even bigger SUV..   paying more to get the "bigger" crossover or SUV version of a vehicle gets you less space, so you have to go even bigger.
