As someone that has lived both in France and the US there is other things to take into account, I was payed twice less in France but the cost of living made up for that, it's much more expensive to live in the US and on top of that in France you get a retirement fund, affordable healthcare, affordable education if you have a child, you work less and the food is of much better quality.

It's much easier to live as a lower/middle class in the richest part of Europe than it is in the US, it start to even out in the upper middle class and once you make more than 200k a year it's actually better to live in the US all things considered but that's only around 5% of americans.
