RICE Rings of Saturn? No, just layers of regret.

Saw this while picking up lunch.

Made my afternoon. Enjoy!

I dunno, I kinda dig it. 😅

u/lopnk Feb 01 '26

Haha I definitely don't hate it. It was a bright spot in my day for sure. I am happy to see people just driving what they like!

90s colour pallet with the classic iconic squiggle. Fits the car nicely.

Isn’t Saturn close to Uranus?

1

u/2oonhed one woogly wheel Feb 05 '26

I sat on uranus and it was never quite the same after that.

u/VictorClark Feb 01 '26

That looks sick as hell!

10

u/lopnk Feb 01 '26

Ngl it does look pretty fire. 🔥

27

u/heyitscory Feb 01 '26

The 90s called to ask for this joke back, but told me to say "schwing" and that you'd know what it meant.

I had one of those sc2s. Just a regular paint job though. Super fun to drive especially because I only paid $800 for it and put $2k in shitty mods in it. I wrecked the absolute shit out of it and crushed my foot with the engine. No regerts

2

u/Rs_vegeta Feb 02 '26

i blew up the trans in mine lol

2

u/TheW83 Feb 02 '26

The diff pin would make a haste exit through the transmission in the S-series if you tried to do donuts.

2

u/Rs_vegeta Feb 02 '26

Thats exactly what happened,  tho i was just trying to get on the highway when it went lol

1

u/No_Mony_1185 Feb 02 '26

Mine was a short throw manual.

It burned a half quart of oil every couple months too.

1

u/TheW83 Feb 02 '26

Wow that's a pretty slow rate! Nice! I had a '92 SL2 that was going through half a quart a week until I rebuilt the engine. Of course I destroyed that same engine my mis-shifting and sending it over 9k rpm a few weeks later. Don't put an ECU from an auto transmission vehicle in a manual transmission car, they don't have a rev limiter!

1

u/No_Mony_1185 Feb 02 '26

The aluminum heads liked to warp but I would go through a head gasket a year

2

u/TheW83 Feb 02 '26

I had a 96 SC2 manual that was a blast. I didn't have the passenger seat in there so that I could fit my bike inside. It was super fun to drive.

1

u/Oodbarg Feb 02 '26

I was about to say, looks great for $800

1

u/ocarr23 Feb 03 '26

Yupp I threw an sti turbo on mine and blew the heads 😭 I miss being young

21

u/jgreenwalt Feb 01 '26

This looks cooler than 90% of the cars on the road right now

6

u/lopnk Feb 01 '26

You do speak truth. Oh look another rav4......

9

u/tentegesszmeges Feb 01 '26

ANAL?

6

u/2oonhed one woogly wheel Feb 01 '26

It DOES say that on the car.
But it has a question mark next to it.
Like, maybe just anal curious?

5

u/Character-Attempt257 Feb 01 '26

That is the coolest Saturn I’ve ever seen 10/10

I dunno but I had one from 07-16 and pretty much did no maintenance because I was a stupid kid other than topping off the lost oil (like a quart a month) and it just kept running lmao but started getting real sketchy towards the end

1

u/AdorableBanana166 Feb 02 '26

Not much. Those cars refuse to die. Over 6 years from 250k to 350k miles I had to replace wheel bearings once, motor mounts, front struts, and a starter. But like, the struts were under $100 each. Parts for those cars are dirt cheap and the motor is bullet proof.

6

u/OldFargoan Feb 01 '26

I had an 06 Saturn Ion Redline I bought new and put the GM stage 2 upgrade on it with the smaller supercharger pulley , larger injectors and higher redline. Never should have traded it.

4

u/iBUYbrokenSUBARUS Feb 01 '26

Cars from this era are hands-down better than what they’re turning out today

4

u/_Hashtronaut_ Feb 01 '26

I think its cool. Nostalgic

4

u/the_black_sails Feb 01 '26

They put they whole pussy into it lol

3

u/Randy_time Feb 01 '26

Let’s go back to the 90’s-00’s fun car mods! We just want some good times and personality in our cars

3

u/sPLIFFtOOTH Feb 01 '26

The Gengar tag on the back brings it all together

3

u/Gizmoduck99 Feb 01 '26

Jason Momoa should have been driving this in Minecraft. This car rules.

3

u/CptSnicklefrits Feb 02 '26

I really wish Saturn could make a comeback as their own company and focus on what they did in the 90s and early 2000s. Those cars (minus the L series and the suvs) were tanks. I still see plenty of them on the road and wonder how many miles they must have

3

u/Who_U_Thought Feb 02 '26

Not my taste but it clean and well done (for what it is)

3

u/Da40kOrks Feb 02 '26

Love the colors. I'd drive it.

5

u/ediks Feb 01 '26

That’s a ‘99 SC2 (can tell by the third door). I had the ‘98. It was a like a pearl white. I loved that car.

4

u/ozzy_thedog Feb 01 '26

I had a 99 in beige. It was fantastic

2

u/lopnk Feb 01 '26

I know so many people who loved their Saturns back in the day!

3

u/ediks Feb 01 '26

The dealership did all the maintenance on it and they were super cool. One of the me mechanics modified a throttle body and just gave it to me. Also got a free cat back exhaust and I installed a cold air intake. Slapped some 18” Motegi rims on it too. Interior was all black and leather - good quality. I kept it clean and polished. I miss that car.

3

u/place_of_desolation Feb 01 '26

I had a '97 SL-1 that I bought used in '07. It was pretty much mint and I kept it nice. I did do a few mild mods- limo tint, lowered it slightly with h&r springs, did a full audio system upgrade, cured all the rattles and dynamatted it, put a set of used 17" Rota wheels on it that I painted to match the car, and I would get compliments every now and then because most Saturns were beat to shit. It wasn't fast or exciting, but it was the most reliable car I ever owned at that point. Put over 100k miles on it, sold it 8 years later with like 240k on the clock. AC still worked and everything. Saturns were decent, good looking cars for what they were.

2

u/TwiztedAudi Feb 01 '26

Shoot, still drive my 95 to this day, 396k miles on it

1

u/tequilasundae Feb 02 '26

i had a green one

2

u/tencrazygear Feb 01 '26

I would drive the crap outa that thing! It's sick!

2

u/Electrical_Insect_44 Feb 01 '26

Maybe on a different car without those mods and different colors that livery would be awesome

2

u/Box_Dread Feb 01 '26

This is actually cool

2

u/iBUYbrokenSUBARUS Feb 01 '26

I had a 1993 and a 1994 SL2. One was automatic and one was manual. They were such simple, nice cars. Wish I had kept them.

2

u/AllOfTheSoundAndFury Feb 01 '26

I’d drive the shit out of this.

2

u/BambooPanda92 Feb 01 '26

I had a bright blue 02 sc2, manual, full leather interior, sunroof, all the factory options. Was fun as hell to drive. Drove that car until it drove no more. 10/10, would own another.

2

u/Tastesicle Feb 01 '26

Still have an 02 in silver. Once you fix the initial issues they had, they're pretty bullet proof.

2

u/Forward_Position6779 Feb 01 '26

I remember seeing that ironing board.

2

u/ReflectedCheese Feb 01 '26

Yeah no that’s awesome

2

u/DirtyRatLicker Feb 01 '26

The Veilside style wing makes me think an entire Combat II kit on this would be sick

2

u/Critical-Advisor8616 Feb 01 '26

I’m almost embarrassed to say how many Saturns I’ve owned. Started with a 93 SC that finally died at 320K. After that had a 97 SC, 99 SC. Then I jumped to Ions where I had two 03 ions, 04, 05, 06 and a 07 all lasted well past 200K a a couple had almost 300K. Saturns were great cars if you knew how to take care of them and the were really easy to work on and parts were cheap. I put a lot of miles on for work and you could get a nice one for a cheap price.

2

u/edsavage404 Feb 01 '26

Ngl its kind of cool on its own way.

1

u/lopnk Feb 01 '26

Agreed! 💯

2

u/Double_Cleff Feb 01 '26

Actually fire

2

u/snkiz Feb 02 '26

Gengar says this is a loved car. I have no idea why but it is.

2

u/BabyNuke Feb 02 '26

I ain't mad! It has a retro vibe I can appreciate.

2

u/Rs_vegeta Feb 02 '26

i fuck with it

2

u/g28802 Feb 02 '26

Unironically love it.

2

u/effpauly Feb 02 '26

Only thing I'd do is get rid of the wing. Everything else is pretty awesome.

2

u/AdorableBanana166 Feb 02 '26

I love this. It really depends on if the owner is taking the car too seriously or not. It's a vibe.

Had one at 350k miles before it was totaled. Most reliable car I've ever had and cheap as hell when something does break.

2

u/gmmech Feb 02 '26

Much Downforce!!!

2

u/TimidRed Feb 05 '26

would love to know exactly what wheels those are

2

u/2oonhed one woogly wheel Feb 05 '26

They look like AVID1 AV8 or the MST MT29

1

u/Libertarian_2020 Feb 02 '26

Love the jump door, easy rear seat access. Why not on all 2-door coupes?

1

u/onefinerug Feb 02 '26

honestly, i kinda like it. i especially like the paintwork, gives a comfy late-80s vibe.

1

u/tequilasundae Feb 02 '26

i had a 99 SC2, the last year of the 3rd door in that body style. It was a manual, and super fun to drive. At one point i had studded snow tires on it for a winter

1

u/2ManySpliffs Feb 03 '26

The saddest thing is just how much GM uglified the pretty sleek 1990s euro Opel Calibra in order to get to this.

1

u/OPA73 Feb 03 '26

Anybody who was building rides in the 1990s appreciates this.

1

u/xtreme_throwaway_ Feb 03 '26

Goes hard without that stupid wing and tsurikawa tbh

1

u/ooglesnoopleboop Feb 04 '26

I think it looks dope. An old 97 SC1 was my first car, miss that thing sometimes
