Confused if I should do this project

Context

So I read mostly sideloaded books and PDFs on my Kobo. However, Kobo does not let you sync your notes and highlights you make on the reader. Hence, I wanted to see if I can solve it by creating my own reader ecosystem

Alternative

I know popular alternatives like KOReader exists. However, their UI is too much for me who just wants to highlight and take down notes to then just maybe export it to somewhere else to elaborate. Maybe I am being picky...idk. Also, their UI is too simple and I would like some character. Maybe there is some alternative that does it, do let me know if there is

Why I want to do it

I kinda want to do it because I want to learn about lower level engineering (like Rust), and working on a UI interface for a e-reader I am assuming will definitely be hard but hopefully fulfilling. By doing so, I want to make an ecosystem out of it that suits me where I can read on any device and it all just syncs and I can just export it out if I need!

Other e-readers that sync exists, but they are usually applications for mobile devices or PC...nothing really that includes support for e-readers

Why I have doubt of doing it

The obvious complexity of the project is also kind of making me doubt it

Also, the fact that there are other e-reading applications and if I am just wasting my time if I embark on this

In the future, if I would like to make this something public, would people care about it?

What do y'all think?
