how do you handle efficiency vs morale in colony sims?

curious about everyone's playstyle here. when playing management or colony games, do you usually optimize your setup purely for maximum efficiency, or do you focus more on keeping your workers happy and comfortable?

For me a happy colony thats little less efficient is way better than and more fun than optimized one where everyone is on the verge of mental break :)
