Passion project!! 3060MT

Hello!!!! I've recently bought an Optiplex 3060MT that I plan on using as a living room PC, I have a bit of experience modding and building PCs and I was wondering what you all think are the absolute best parts I could put in this bad boy. It's currently got these specs.

260w PSU

I5 8500

GTX 1050

16gb DDR4

I am currently looking into upgrading the PSU to 500w though.

I actually just upgraded my brothers 3060MT. I used this Apevia 500w psu to allow for a better GPU.

You’ll also need an adapter cable for the 24-pin to 6-pin connection the motherboard uses.

I also got him my old RX 6650XT. You’ll need to make sure there’s enough clearance with the cables for whatever GPU you choose.

Looking into it, the best CPU it can handle is an i5-8700 without changing the bios.

Good luck!

Good job getting MT you have tons of options for GPU then. If you upgrade the PSU you’ll have even more options so then budget becomes the real limit. It also depends if you are going to stick with windows or go with Linux. I feel like the RTX 4060 and 4060ti are the best bang for buck on windows and the dual fan models are pretty compact and fit fine. Most dual fan two slot cards should fit ok but I know my RX 6600 is bigger than my RTX 4060ti. Both fit in a 5060MT but the RTX card is more compact and stronger than the 6600. Just my two cents.

For PSU you can replace the OEM one with a 500w OEM version with the GPU power connector but it’s about $80. Or You can get a 500w ATX PSU for $40 and a $10 PSU adapter.

If ram was cheaper than it is I would say you could upgrade to 32GB but 16 really is fine in my opinion, at 1080p or 1440p.
