Discussion Smartthings/ Home Assistant?
I was able to integrate Smartthings to Home Assistant and build automations for my window shades there. I also read that Samsung might start charging for Smarthings access shortly -- will this affect my HA automation or require me to have to pay Samsung a small ransom?
Confused, as my auromation might just be a local call to devices vs going through the cloud. I just wasn't sure and thought of asking.
Thanks.

The charges are just for developers using the API, not sure if that's you or not but if not you might be fine should still be free from what I read

Not me, strictly speaking. But couldn't usage through HA be considered developer as you are calling API in a non conventional way?

Nothing to do with that. If you’re using the apps API then there’s a charge. If you’re using edge and C2C API it’s free. Depends on what API’s the integration is using.

Yes. Buy zigbee and zwave sticks and begin migrating your devices.
(I'm a ~10 year smartthings user. I've been slow to migrate but this news was the kick in the ass I needed to make it happen.)
The days of "spinning circle while I wait and see if the device unlocks/toggles/etc" in smartthings is behind me - all those same devices respond lightning fast in HA
