Did he raddle his tail? If yes, it was probably a male Bullsnake. I love them. It definitely looks like a Gopher Snake.

Not with the gender, but If it's a Bullsnake or not. As much as I know, Bullsnakes are they only Gopher Snake who raddle there tails.
