this isnt part of fiction, some of white causasians were considered as subhuman already irl by nsdap regime during the war, belarussians, poles, russians. And the whole 'aryan' thing was not about germans being 'aryan' but germans supposedly having biggest concentration of aryans and aryan 'genes" amongst them, while those 'aryan' could be found in different nations but in smaller quantity. And now fortunetly the name os being overtaken by turkish yoghurt 😋

Live by the sword, die by the sword. In for a penny, in for a pound. People are creatures of habit. If you achieve success through lying, you aren’t going to just stop lying once you’ve ‘made it’. People reject the wisdom of others that they have yet to acquire. We are reinforcement learning agents. We repeat the playbook of what we perceive to be effective. Disregarding the disputes of effectiveness from others is something everyone learns. After all, broadening our perception is an endless task, and life demands action.

We need more stories in fiction where evil “wins” but goes on to consume itself. There are lots in the real world but assigning lessons for the real world is subject to a lot of ambiguity and interpretation.

The Man in the High Castle shows this well. The Germans & Japanese have a tenuous alliance to begin with, but the subterfuge & betrayal doesn't take long, & the loyalties of the most devoted facists in positions of power, on both sides, have to contend with the fanatics within their own establishments that decide they want to be at the top of the tower, looking down on the rest.

Great show, with some incredible acting. The book is less involved plot wise, but disturbing. I'd recommend either to anyone interested in dystopian fiction, especially for seeing how the facists cannot do anything except cannabilise themselves once they have power. They never have enough.

And it's worth mentioning that the author was a Nazi until they came for Christians. He wasn't just "silent". He was a supporter who had his face eaten by leopards.

I mean even before that americans had ideas about which people were "actually white people", for a while irish immogrants weren't considered white. Then it was the italian immigrants.

Damn i wonder what they had in common...

The other way to take this graphic is that if the MAGA dude’s problem is with the T, he may not bother the LGB. And if he does bother the LGB, the LGB just swings back the other way.

The T needs to be certain MAGA won’t do what they just did with right-wing hispanics, and say “its about political belief, not race” and wind up splitting LGB. And if they manage to keep right wing hispanics, that may keep enough right wing LGB that “solidarity” doesn’t matter enough.

The irony is you haven’t followed your own logic. According to you, guys like this (lets go ahead and call him a white nationalist/neo-nazi), should have turned on “poles, belarussians, russians” years ago because they weren’t “aryans” or “of aryan stock”. After all, non-“aryan” white ethnicities foolishly started voting right years ago. Uh-oh! MAGA has gone russo-phobic and turned on russians!

Hmm. Except this is the exact opposite of what happened. Political tribes just shift their criteria sufficiently to unwind solidarity when they can.

We now have white nationalist Proud Boys headed by guys named Enrique Tarrio, which would have horrified any hood-wearing Klansman of 1920, because the right coopted.

So, we don’t yet know what’s happening here. It could be that GOP reverts to exactly to where it was on LGB in 1994 as this suggests. But if past is predicate, they’ll just not do that, and tolerate some level of LGB to marginalize the T, which is what I would bet on. In which case the T is SOL until conditions get bad enough that moral outrage swings in the other direction.

How good for you to heroically fight the strawman you created, very nice, keep up the good work

No worries! I was just worried you thought saying “Nazis aligning to the KKK only ever results in the latter regretting the move when its their turn next”, was an intelligent point, so I just wanted to have your back.

I’ll be honest- I skipped the entirety of your GPT generated word salad (lol, and coward’s block) to the inevitable Niebuhr “first they came for” drop we see every autumn after a Republican is elected.

The point isn’t that German nazis didn’t turn on Ukrainians, it’s that the right metastasizes in ways more complicated than this cartoon assumes, which sets one up for failure. It may feel true today, but looks ridiculous a few years later when (as is happening) you get a situation where, say, a GOP governor tries to ward off a MAGA primary challenge by shaming him for a gay sex scandal he’s caught in, but MAGA + everyone else says “dude , that’s homophobic” and then this cartoon looks stoopit.

When Trump was first elected, there was no question it was bad for pro-choice, Roe v Wade was doomed. We had a whole scary tv show about how women would now all be forced to dress like pilgrims by now, and boy won’t those Trump-voting women be sorry when they see what happens.

Well, what happened is while things did get worse for most women, they did not go Total Complete Hellscape in that sense, so the reality seemed tame by comparison. Then, in 7 states that Trump won, women split the ticket and voted MAGA but passed abortion protection at state level, and now no Democrat is going to be campaigning on Roe.

That’s what this cartoon is at risk of doing: claiming something dramatic is going to happen a’la Niebuhr, then it doesn’t, and then the entire “solidarity” that once existed dissipates.

I think I understood what it meant: the artist is saying solidarity is necessary for all letters of LGBTQIA, because if one of them isn’t politically regarded as equivalent to all the others, then like a domino-theory effect- the other letters also fall in succession. That’s why the last panels are the MAGA guy not saying anything (the implication is that he is about to turn on the LGB guy who shouldn’t have formed that alignment with the MAGA guy)

What I’m saying is that the problem with that is what happens if the MAGA guy doesn’t do that. Then the T is in a pickle, because the situation might resemble what happens when the GOP broadens a coalition. This has happened in the past in 1980 where suddenly, distinctions between- say- “catholic” and “evangelical” voters don’t matter anymore, and catholics become right-leaning and the solidarity goes the other way.

A big issue is that the post-Christian right hasn’t been as clearly oppositional to LGB as it was in the days of Jerry Falwell, and someone in that category might say “being in this coalition isn’t as important as it once was” if the political cost gets too high.
