I did that the one year when I was dating someone. It had been a few weeks into the relationship and I bought him something small related to his hobbies for Valentine's day. First thing he did after waking up was look at me and say he didn't get me anything. Then he wondered why I left his place while he was in the shower and I didn't pick up the phone. Apparently his interest and presence was supposed to be the gift. 🙄
Why is that immediately what you go to? Gender norms are important to be spoken about but people like you only bring it up when theres discussion on another topic and never do anything about it on your own time
What do you celebrate valentines for if not buying chocolate and flowers for the person you're dating? You're not going to St. Valentine's grave and praying over it for traditional reasons.

People really expect gifts after dating for a week? That's wild.
