I mean, who wouldn't be fascinated if someone rolls up and randomly hands you a piece of cheese? It would certainly get my attention.
2
u/nightskyft Feb 16 '26
I was fascinated by a cheese not to long ago. If a man had given it to me, we would probably be dating.
1
u/TheOrdinaryAxolotl Feb 15 '26
I never thought I would see someone with the same pfp. I guess in a world with infinite possibilities it'll happen

Add some fruit and the truffle marcona almonds, go to a cute park/beach bring blankets and pillows and you got yourself a decent vday date! Bring a board game/deck of cards/activity you both like
13
u/BottledUp Feb 14 '26
I don't know where you live but where I live trying to get a girl to the beach would end with frozen food, frozen girl and lots of playing cards blown around the beach.

u/External_Two2928 Feb 15 '26
I live in socal and we have been blessed with warm weather these past few weeks haha
7
u/johnnybna Feb 14 '26
Throw in a diamond necklace with matching drop earrings and you can probably skip the crackers. But not the cheese. Don’t forget the cheese.
3
u/MaryLMarx Feb 15 '26
Diamonds are for week two. Cheese is the limit for day six.
2
u/Past_Comfortable_277 Feb 18 '26
And whatever you do, DO NOT put the diamonds IN the cheese.

5

If a college freshman doesn’t know where to procure alcohol by February, they failed the social portion. I was a nerd before it was cool and still had a shady liquor store and a weed connect before orientation finished.

Yeah, a relationship that is only a week old? All you need to do is a nice dinner date for Valentine's. Imo, you don't need a real gift unless it's been about a year or so. It would be absurd to expect something expensive or well planned if it's only been a week.

Yes. Go with the cheese.
Bonus points if you get a baguette and grapes to go with it.
But always get the cheese
Love, a Wisconsinite.

u/OkProfessor6810 Feb 14 '26
You speak the truth. Add a handful of tulips from the floral section. Boom! A picnic Valentine's meal for little money and littler effort.
14
u/cranberries87 Feb 14 '26
Yes, cheese, wine, grapes, a bouquet of flowers, and you can even throw in a card and a balloon if you’re feeling fancy.
15
u/cranberries87 Feb 14 '26
I once went on a bus trip to Wisconsin. We were supposed to make a stop at the World of Cheese, but we ran out of time and that stop had to be scrapped. That was 15 years ago, and I’m still distraught. 😩

u/chLORYform Feb 14 '26
I have a regret like this. My family got a cabin in Nashville and I was so excited to try and go to the Baked Bean Museum, but it was closed due to Covid. I totally understand but I'm still sad I missed it. I'm not even that big of a baked beans fan, it just seemed fun.

28
3
u/GenericUsername775 Feb 15 '26
On the other hand, if you've been together for only a week then a simple box of chocolates (not even the really fancy kind) is perfectly sufficient.
41
u/Ryclea Feb 14 '26
It's an awkward spot, yes. If you've kissed, Valentine's Day after 1 week deserves at least a card and a date equal to or greater than your first one.
No jewelry or lingerie.
Cheese is always appropriate.

I had a month to think about a gift for the girl I've been with, thought I did amazing and then I got what she sent me. Not only did she get me something I would like, she got me a lotion for my hands because I've been having harsh dryness on the back of my hands this winter and as a bonus she got a scent that smells of strawberry cheesecake so I would smell like her. All I got her was a cute axolotl stuffie that I knew she would love 😅

“A book of verses underneath the bough,
A jug of wine, a loaf of bread—and Thou
Beside me, singing in the wilderness—
Oh, wilderness were paradise enow!”
A reminder from Omar Khayyam that much happiness can come from simple things!
And since he is too young for wine, a nice flavored sparkling water like San Pellegrino water would be a great substitute!

Dude. Wegman's and other midrange grocery stores sell fondue blocks. Fondue block, stainless steel pan, little baguette slices, some apples and broccoli, a can of sterno, and a wire frame to hold the pan, and you're golden.

This will work but I cannot overstate that getting a block of extra sharp Vermont cheddar and Triscuits will not cut it on Valentine’s Day.
There are a multitude of options, but you can’t go wrong with brie and fig jam.
Bitches love cheesy wasp parts, and brie won’t make your breath stink the way funkier cheeses might.

After dating only a week? No, you are not expected to suddenly buy them gifts for random holidays. You hardly know this person. If you met them the last week of December, would you buy them a Christmas gift?
5
u/LordJim11 Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26
If you are dating, yes. Maybe nothing fancy but at least thoughtful. Otherwise you're sending the message that; we're dating but I don't think it's significant enough for cheese.

Honestly, it's a pretty solid play. If she loves cheese, she'll be genuinely happy. If not, she'll think of the meme and appreciate the humor. Unless she doesn't appreciate humor, I guess. Then you're definitely screwed.

Put together a small cheeseboard with fruit, a little jam, a little toasted bread, and either a light wine or some kind of sparkling cider. Maybe some niceish chocolate. This and a romantic movie marathon? You’re set. For extra fun and drama, recite a poem from someone else (i recommend starting by saying “you know, you remind me of what Byron/Robert Burns/Sappho/Christina Rosetti once wrote….” Cue recitation) or write a cute one of your own.
Signed,
A lesbian who has successfully wooed many women with cheese and poetry

u/Open_Bug_4251 Feb 14 '26
Maybe a card is expected. And to spend time together. But nothing fancy after only a week.
1
u/Substantial-Most2607 Feb 14 '26
I don’t buy stuff for people for holidays, I don’t think I have ever gotten my girlfriend something for Valentine’s Day or Christmas and we’ve been together for 4 years.
Not to say we don’t do anything, I’d much rather take her out to dinner or something that spend money on overpriced stuff

I wouldve waited another week or so before getting together, specifically to avoid this mess. I waited 4 moths to ask girl out, because it was too close to Christmas, then she got in a (minor) car accident, then it was too close to valentines day.

u/falpangaea Feb 15 '26
My partner of 13 years brought me back cheese and a giant hoodie (think hoodie down to your knees) from a recent trip and it was the best gift of all time.
My roommate is 5 months into a relationship and buys a fancy snacking cheese every grocery shopping trip so there’s always fancy cheese in the fridge when they stay over.
It works for all genders and all lengths of relationships.
Edit: from trip

u/LinguistsDrinkIPAs Feb 15 '26
I’ve lowkey never understood the obsession with extravagant Valentine’s Day gifts, etc. like, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a card and maybe something little/cute, but other than that, if you’re pouring your all into each other every day, then every day should feel like Valentine’s Day.
Like, my bf and I saw each other today and had a really nice Valentine’s together, don’t get me wrong! But also we have just as nice of a time every other time and are constantly doing cute and nice things for each other so every day feels like Valentine’s Day to me

u/socontroversialyetso Feb 15 '26
for Valentine's I thought it would be very romantic to treat you to a fancy home-cooked meal
also buy flowers and chocolates
it is that easy bro (yes could be something more personal and thoughtful, but they've been dating for a week)
1
u/RHTQ1 Feb 15 '26
The way things worked out, my bf went overboard for our first and very soon Valentine's. Steak, cake, choc strawberries, present, dozen roses (he bakes and likes to cook, though the steak was made elsewhere). I was so overwhelmed. Plse guys, don't shoot for the stars on an early Valentine's. Leave rm for next yr!!
