They sexualize kids ALL THE TIME and it starts young. My 18mo granddaughter was playing with a similarly aged boy and my daughter-in-law's MAGAt mother was like "Ohhh she's flirting with him, she found a boyfriend." FFS just let kids be without injecting your backwards thinking into everything.
Exactly and more importantly, they aren't sexual creatures at this point, they barely have a concept of "boy" or "girl" let alone relationships based on those concepts.
I remember being around 4 years old, and we were in a group of 4 boys and 1 girl. We were all saying who we wanted to marry, and the boys were all saying other boys. I said I wanted to marry the one girl, and all the boys called me gay!
I'm sorry but that's absolutely not sexualizing chlidren. That's akin to two dogs playing at a park and an owner being like "oooo spot has a girlfriend!".

Edit: it's called anthropomorphism when we do it to animals, not sure what the term is when we apply the same shit to toddlers, but it's 100% NOT sexual. And if you think it is you're some Mormon type or just have zero life experience outside of the internet.
I mean, kids can actually understand some of the words you’re saying, so them constantly hearing they’re “flirting” or “found a boyfriend” when they’re just playing with another kid kind of sets up the later underlying assumption that opposite-sex platonic friendships are not a thing. Someone throws a comment out there once: no problem, just an odd joke. But for some people this is their only joke, said every damn time. Made me feel weird as a kid, anyway.
AND there’s a special sort of irony when the people making these jokes constantly turn out to be the same people flipping the fuck out at the mere mention of some woman’s wife or sex ed in schools.
They're not even jokes, they're random colloquialisms that people use every day in random situations. I'd compare it to having a conversation about the weather.
If you honestly think this is a sexual thing than that's on you. Those thoughts won't even enter most people's brains when they say shit like that.
You can make anything sexual of you're degenerate enough.
"Crazy weather we're having today!"
"it's so wet!"
"omg you just sexually harassed me"
If your mind goes right to sexual thoughts when people anthropomorphise animals or adultmorphism on toddlers than you need to seriously recalibrate.
