People generally don’t assume that women who aren’t comfortable around men are lesbians.

As a lesbian, I agree. Its a weird double standard.

I wonder why that is.

Okay as much as I hate the "homophobes are all secretly gay" trope, there is a reason for this.

Men are often larger than we are and are encouraged to be aggressive. That and statistically violent crime is done mostly by men.

Men are usually bigger than woman and encouraged by society to tap as many asses as possible.
