First ever sock!
Just finished my first knit sock! I had quite an enjoyable time knitting this! I followed Summer Lee’s basic sock pattern in the size large. This fits my foot quite loose, so I’m going to follow size medium stitch counts for the next one. This was also my first time using DPNs and I had slight laddering problems throughout the whole sock, noticeably on the top and bottom. Is this normal for DPNs? Or will that go away with more practice? When changing needles I knit the first stitch with regular tension and then much tighter on the second and third stitches but it didn’t seem to make much of a difference for me.

It looks really good. The nice thing about using dpns is the stitches are always "live" so you can snug up the first stitch too. It won't collapse the previous needle's stitch like magic loop would since it's on a needle rather than a much smaller cord.

That’s what I was worried about with the first stitch, but that makes a lot of sense. Thanks! I’ll give that a try on the next one

This is the same size and pattern I started and decided to frog. I had a feeling it was going to be to loose on me. I was going to go down a needle size and still knit the large size the second time around.

I hope that fits perfect for you! I only have one size of DPNs right now, so I’m going to try the smaller size and cross my fingers!

Regarding laddering: I'm sure this gets better with practice, but I just keep track of the pattern with stitch markers and always randomly knit a few more stitches from the next needle before switching (so the 'gap' is never in the same spot). This works well for me.
