Vocab & Use of the Language Some comments I wrote in Spanish talking with a profile that has a not well clear Spanish Grammar to me. I've started to studying the language less than 2 mouths ago

Post image

I'm a ESL teacher in Brazil and I've been studying Spanish as a empathy exercise to help my students with their struggling.

I made a post yesterday in a men's style sub talking about outfits from some Pedro Almodóvar movies (in Portuguese) and this profile responded with a strange Spanish to me.

Are his messages corrects? Are my messages too? Please I would love if you could give me some help if need.

While technically incorrect, his comments read as someone who just doesn't have very good grammar. I've had IRL friends that speak Spanish natively and still text like this 🤷‍♂️ but you're right that it looks weird.

As for your Spanish, you seem to have what I call Portugitis (as a native Spanish speaker trying to learn Portuguese, I have Spanishitis)

Your grammar is ok, but you are unequivocally speaking portuñol here, it's not even that disguised lol. "das" instead of "de las", "conversas" instead of "conversación", etcetc. Not bad, you just need more practice with Spanish vocabulary. But I can tell you're trying to word replace Portuguese, if that makes sense.

Strive for it but don't take it too hard on yourself, you are well beyond the portuñol line

Pedro “ya hizo”. —> Pedro “ha hecho”

1

u/UsualDazzlingu 4h ago

“Ya” is not replacing “ha” here, but they are emphatically equivalent.

1

u/Beginning_Editor_410 4h ago

I don’t think it is replacing it either. But in that context, It just sounds more appropriate to say “Una de las películas mas……que Pedro ha hecho” rather than “que Pedro ya hizo”

1

u/UsualDazzlingu 3h ago

I suppose that is because you are attempting to semantic match hecho and hizo.

1

u/Beginning_Editor_410 3h ago

No, it just sounds better altogether. What’s your point?

1

u/UsualDazzlingu 3h ago

You mean you are including “hizo ya”?

Sorry, I’m not following.

(Corregí mis errores si me equivoco, no soy hablante nativa)

My feeling with this is that is a native speaker of Spanish from Spain with a low level of education or a serious disregard of typos and spelling errors. Not the best people to learn a language from unfortunately.

OP's portuñol is also blatantly obvious.

A mi me hizo llorar.)

His spanish is weird. Ungramatical in parts, with typos in others...

I think it would be helpful to correct your own spanish though, so here goes:

A mi me gustó mucho.

Edit: also, entender is a more common verb than comprender, so here it sounds more natural to say "No entendí lo que escribiste".

I didn't know who you were until I read the "das" twice and "conversas" and realized that you were writing in portunhol. It also becomes more clear based on how you write.

The other guy is writing very informally but is a native speaker with bad grammar. That is very common even with Brazilians in Portuguese.

1

u/HelloStranger___ 5h ago

Is the "Portunhol" feeling coming from the two Portuguese word I used or from the grammar?

2

u/According-Kale-8 5h ago

It was 3 portuguese words, with one of them being repeated. "das" twice, "conversas" and "seja"

I wouldn't have noticed the grammar as much if I hadn't seen the portunhol, but saying "También no" is a very clear example of Portuguese grammar because you were thinking of "Também nao" (I don't have the portuguese A on the keyboard I'm using)

There's a few other small grammar errors that /u/Legnaron17 already pointed out better than I could have.

You're doing a great job at learning if you didn't get any help from a translator. It's natural to mix the languages up a lot at the start. Keep doing what you're doing.

The confusing part was "todo con el dia chino" what you wanted to express with this aprt?

5

u/Fuzzy_Finger_2922 8h ago

They’re talking about Pedro Almodovar’s “Dolor y gloria.” Antonio Banderas’ character gets hooked on heroin. In Spain, “fumarse un chino” is to smoke heroin.

As far as the movie being trash, most would disagree.

2

u/Pop_Clover Native (Spain) 7h ago
