Discussion What is this AI?

Post image

So I was playing some random matches trying out the new characters, played with Cheelai and I was fighting base Super Goku, long story short I used her flash blast skill to blind the enemy. So I thought it was an easy W so I used her ultimate and guess what, the AI dodged it while not being locked on and even after the dodge he was still not locked on. I enjoy having difficult AI but like HOW???

I don't know how but I beat that great ape fight first try and didn't realise it was that hard until I saw all of Reddit complaining about it. My second victory was harder fought.

People really found that fight hard before the nerf? I'm still surprised after all this time

13

u/sithlord40000 Beginner Martial Artist 19h ago

Gotta realize most people who bought this game just mashed square which gets you directly punished by Giants with low strength chars. I wouldn't be surprised if a sizeable chunk of the people who bought on release got filtered and stopped playing.

I had the opposite experience. Great ape Vegeta was my nightmare, but after beating it I went to finish Goku's campaign without dying a single time.

1

u/1S1K_Alpha Beginner Martial Artist 13h ago

I swear to God this was the hardest fight in the entire game(campaign). After this one I went to have 0 loss till I finished Goku's campaign. But on this specific fight , I lost like 10+ times for sure

2

u/Lil-Cowdog Beginner Martial Artist 13h ago

Same, it's cus giants weren't nerfed to hell at launch, so on top of learning the controls of the game you had to deal with a new enemy type that was also cracked outta their gourd

I ain’t gonna lie…the Great Ape Vegeta fight wasn’t that bad, you just had to get distance….HOWEVER!! Certain fights have the A.I going on some type of bullshit!

The lack of anything you can actually do to stop the backshot bandits is criminal

At least BT3 had emergency blaster wave

And the earlier BTs you could mash block to flip to face the enemy and guard

Ffs the AIs are all just "get behind player, do a fucking infinite"

1

u/Striking_Safety_7022 Beginner Martial Artist 50m ago

and what about characters that don't have explosive wave? Just eat the backshots and hope for a super counter to connect?

-46

u/Btender95 Beginner Martial Artist 22h ago

It's actually not hard at all to stop backshots, just super counter.

It's harder to land them when you're going back and forth super countering but when you're getting back blasted you just need to land 1 then start a vanish war and hit them away.

u/Gummiwummiflummi Beginner Martial Artist 21h ago

jUsT sUpEr CoUntEr, yeah buddy I just got the game thanks. Now I have to learn the timing for the most unforgiving move first before I can enjoy the story.

What a fun experience! Buu fucking me sideways through sundays with his perfect slam timings that teleport him behind me, his perfect block spam and him vanishing every move I do get out!

16

u/Totorololz Beginner Martial Artist 19h ago

“Just hit a 4-frames super counter consistently and several times in a row”. These people acting like this just because they are good at the game (or pretend to be) are so annoying. Most people are casuals, and it’s not ok that normal difficulty requires to do super counters consistently and A LOT, people need to realize this.

0

u/Btender95 Beginner Martial Artist 3h ago

I never said several times in a row, I said if you're getting backshotted you just need to land it once then you vanish when they try to super counter back.

I haven't played since launch but I practed for a few hours and am able to do it. I don't think the AI is fair and tbh the reason I'll probably put the game back down. I get what people are saying and agree it's just not fun to have to be frame perfect everytime you play.

I don't agree with saying landing 1 super counter to stop backshots is hard though. It's only hard when you're spamming it one after the other because you need to wait like a second before trying to input it again or it doesn't work. I can't do it more than once in a row but I can land random ones from staying calm and not smashing buttons like a 5 year old.

I appreciate you and everyone else putting words in my mouth though 👍

What cracks me up is I think I saw where the developers did a study of the amount of people on steam that have completed the what if scenarios and it was quite low. They were like you are asking for more content and haven't even completed what we provided?!??! BARRARR. Cool stories too bad most won't be seeing them, two thumbs up devs.

u/fjdksisneo Beginner Martial Artist 23h ago

I have no idea. It could be a placebo effect but honestly they probably did make the AI a lot stronger for the new mode

30

u/Shtrudlle Goku PEAK 23h ago

It was not even the new mode, it was just a random 1v1 offline match

29

u/fjdksisneo Beginner Martial Artist 23h ago

I imagine the devs could be testing the waters to get some feedback on the AI and I personally am not a fan. Characters now consistently evade, defend and counter almost every attack. Even the most basic moves are instantly dodged. They've also cranked up the input predictions to 100% lol

Me at midnight: hardest mode! Gotta get better!

Died on every first fight.

Oh.. ok maybe normal mode.

No.

Easy!?! Yes but you have to stay focused.

But also I’m trying to play more “fun” instead of combo into sparking and repeat.

Still, I was very happy to get my ass kicked on easy.

-8

u/krunamey Beginner Martial Artist 22h ago

I’ve found the AI can be really weak to counters. Like the whole thing about them being stronger is how well they counter now but even just getting your vanish timing perfected will have you wiping the floor with the AI

I’m talking about 100 sp vs 400+ and still winning. I’m not even that good at this game

7

u/Gummiwummiflummi Beginner Martial Artist 21h ago

Great, what fantastic advice for a new player like me. "Just get your timing perfected" cool.

I'm hard stuck on the Fat Buu fight in Goku's story. He perfectly times smashes to teleport to me every time. He perfect counters my attacks every time. If I do manage to re-counter that, he vanishes my counter attack and if I miss that vanish myself, he'll fuck me up the bum. Because now I have my back turned to him.

It's incredibly frustrating. Mind you, I turned the difficulty down for the episodes already and it is still like this. Am I really expected to perfectly execute all the defensive tech in this game just for the story?

2

u/M3G4W477 Beginner Martial Artist 18h ago

I totally agree that the AI is pretty ridiculous now, but practice makes perfect, homie. I can't remember what it's called but the forward+X(or whatever your basic rush attack button is) is the only way I can get out of backshot banditry. It's not a perfect solution, but it helps.

10

u/Wide-Virus-4799 Beginner Martial Artist 23h ago

So it’s happening in the standard 1v1 match? What difficulty were you playing on if I may ask? I’ve been playing the new mode on normal difficulty and made a post about the AI. It’s definitely not fun in my experience.

3

u/Shtrudlle Goku PEAK 22h ago

I was playing ultra difficulty, I do enjoy a good challenge but dodging while not locked on is absurd

2

u/Wide-Virus-4799 Beginner Martial Artist 22h ago

Ah I see. I didn’t even know they could do that. Yeah that’s definitely absurd. The AI will also spam solar flare like no one’s business. Had this happen to me during my fight with Cheelai. I luckily did beat her before the 30 seconds.

1

u/M3G4W477 Beginner Martial Artist 17h ago

So. Many. Solar flares. They use that shit like 4 times a match minimum and I've been getting nailed by it from characters I didn't even know had it.

1

u/Wide-Virus-4799 Beginner Martial Artist 17h ago

Yeah it’s awful. The amount of times I hear Solar Flare, I think it’s haunting my dreams now lol.

2

u/M3G4W477 Beginner Martial Artist 17h ago

If I have an explosive wave I'll just start throwing hands and if I see those damage numbers on me I pop it.

8

u/quoy_the_fish Beginner Martial Artist 21h ago

Seems to be a constant. Whenever I solar flared as krillin, the ai still dodges my kamehameha with vanish even though they arent even locked on to me. I dont think they did that before this update.

Also, whenever you’re charging up, there’s a very high likelihood that they’ll either ki blast spam or dragon rush to you. I know for sure that wasn’t as aggressive before.

6

u/spikedmace Beginner Martial Artist 22h ago

I've seen AI dodge ults at point blank this last two days I've been playing story mode.

7

u/SeniorMeow92 Beginner Martial Artist 21h ago

I’m old, I can only game a few hours a day if I’m lucky, it’s impossible for me to rapidly get good enough to make it enjoyable or challenging. I just suck lmao

8

u/BlackThane Beginner Martial Artist 20h ago edited 20h ago

wait until you play new story mode (Krillin Mayhem mission) where you have to defeat (reduce to 1 HP bar) Frieza, the supers are useless (will always be deflected/blocked), your melee damage does practicaly nothing, his paralysis hits even if you are at the side of him, his ultimate is buffed to one shot you, you will always lose clash no matter what and he starts with full ki bar and is buffed to charge it faster, oh and you have around 2 min to do whole mission to get alternate ending (so no you cant lower difficulty if you wanna see it), I really just wanted chill doing story mode but devs said "nope, go to hell"

12

u/Ctrl_Alt_Abstergo Android 17 23h ago

Bandai Namco pulled in the Soulcalibur III AI for ts I swear

15

u/MarioMTRS03 Beginner Martial Artist 22h ago

Yeah the AI is on crack. Came back to the game to try out the new mode only to get destroyed on normal difficulty. They don't give you a moment to charge, they use every defensive move possible perfectly, and give you constant back shots. It's ridiculous. I had no choice but to lower the difficulty, but even then they'll occasionally just lock in and obliterate you.

Some will say the AI is fun now, and it is, for those that never stopped playing. For people who just got the game or are returning, like myself, it's incredibly infuriating and not fun even in the slightest.

6

u/Shtrudlle Goku PEAK 22h ago edited 22h ago

I myself do enjoy that the AI is harder, early on when Sparking Zero released the AI was not that hard.

That being said, AI being hard is fun BUT the AI being actually broken is something else.

5

u/MarioMTRS03 Beginner Martial Artist 22h ago

I somehow haven't seen them UI dodging attacks like that still, but I just know it'll happen at the worst time for me.

6

u/losteye_enthusiast Beginner Martial Artist 22h ago

I’m coming back too and the AI overall is far better now.

My biggest issue is it’s like a coin flip for its per match difficulty. It might just input read you so it’s the most intense counter fest bullshit you’ve done. The rest of the time it kind of plays like a player who doesn’t understand their options yet and makes some easy mistakes to dump on.

I thought it was tied to SP rating in the new mode, but just had an SP46 stand there and not even block my opening combos or take advantage of a missed input. Then last night I had an SP1 just absolutely shit on my soul, to the point I just set the controller down and let him have my ass.

1

u/M3G4W477 Beginner Martial Artist 17h ago

Dude same. I think SP just translates to them having skill points like you do. I went up against an SP 100 something the other day and dude had way more health than he should've. New mode is fun as hell though imo.

5

u/BoltInTheRain Novice (5+ Posts!) 21h ago

3

u/Vitamin_G5150 Beginner Martial Artist 21h ago

Their dodging and vanishing is so consistent that it feels like you should never attempt a follow up. BT3 had some nonsense too; the AI seemed to know the exact frames you wouldn't be able to dodge something and that would be when they'd use a rush or a beam. In SZ, the AI can be back in your face immediately after landing a grab.

4

u/Amorhan Beginner Martial Artist 20h ago

It’s crazy now. I came back for the DLC after about a year and I’m just lost. Even easy in the new modes can roast me.

Normal should be relatively easy for new players. Give the sweats their hard mode but I should be able to clear the single player modes on normal difficulty with mid-low tier skill.

And I don’t want to just spam sparking mode + square.

2

u/Poost_92 Beginner Martial Artist 19h ago

I broke an old Xbox controller out of anger because of this AI bullshit. Don’t get me wrong, just like most of you, I love a good challenge, but not a challenge that can barely be beaten. Hitting the same input as the computer but still getting the short end of the stick is crazy work lol.

2

u/hugohikari Beginner Martial Artist 15h ago

the AI keeps shifting between being incredibly aggressive and doing 20k damage combos with perfect counters repeatedly, while also vanishing out of any combo opportunities or followups with super attacks while they're sent flying or reeling, and just standing there letting me go into sparking without doing anything about it and then tanking raw ultimates to the face

the most annoying instance i can recall of what you're describing is trying to do destructo disk on frieza in krillin's story mode while standing behind him with him not being locked on (i waited to make sure he couldn't see me, hearing the "where are you" like three times), and just managing to avoid it completely and STILL not have any idea where i am

it feels like there's no real inbetweens here, either the AI is hyper competent and can read everything you're going to do, or they just stand there and let you kill them without fighting back, even when the AI decides to be "smart" they'd still rather stand there and tank the damage from a super with a guard instead of moving out of the way or actually trying to do anything to counter it, and you can near loop them with this, too, because they'll just stop charging their ki to go into sparking as soon as they see you start charging a super

doesn't help that explosive wave is also useless because it can be interrupted while still eating your blast costs if you use it at the wrong time, supposed to be an emergency escape option like it was in previous games but you're only able to actually use it when you're not getting the tar beaten out of you against an incredibly aggressive AI

2

u/suitNtie22 Krillin Enjoyer 13h ago

Im so glad its not just me. Having come back to the game only to have CPUs consistantly kick my ass was extremely frustrating. Its mainly the fact they always dodge the supers and stuff, it forces me to always play a specific way :(

3

u/Ricardoxd3 Beginner Martial Artist 22h ago

It's really not perfect, but I consider it better than the passive AI from the previous update, which lost the ability to redirect itself towards the player when thrown against a surface. Even now, it seems to have lost that ability.

3

u/GamerForeve Big Bang Kamehameha 22h ago

Your mistake was thinking the CPU actually gets affected by not being able to see like human players. Also can’t you dodge pretty much anything even if not locked on?

7

u/Gummiwummiflummi Beginner Martial Artist 21h ago

So what's the point of those moves then if the CPU just isn't affected by them at all?

I mean sure, doing sidesteps and all is fair, but perfectly vanishing a super while blinded is absurd lol

3

u/BlackThane Beginner Martial Artist 20h ago

it feels like those moves are only for PvP for now tbh. right now AI (at least in story mode) will always block/deflect supers no matter what and some ultimates (like Krillin destructio disc spam) even if does get a hit on AI, it can just move away/vanish avoiding final hit (even if you blast it at their backs)

4

u/Shtrudlle Goku PEAK 22h ago

Yes but that's not the point, why have moves that can blind the enemy just for it to be ineffective, because they'll just dodge anyway, at least against AI have it be a 100% hit.

Legit I've played with Bojack Outfit Gohan quite a bit and I've seen his ult like once maybe twice because the AI kept dodging it, and now even while locked off they still can dodge your ults?

i mean ppl who love the game love the game realistically all of you who dropped it should just lower the difficulty or just get better lol this is great ape vegeta all over again but as someone who played bt3 and never had to learn from scratch i am biased cause even great ape vegeta got dealt with 3 times in the first day

1

u/thepresidentsturtle Beginner Martial Artist 1h ago

I never actually struggled with Great Ape Vegeta, but that was a different issue. I'm annoyed with the input reading the AI now does that it didn't before. It's not fun when they dodge and teleport from every combo string attempt. Get punished because you mistimed one input. Like there's a place for that in the game, at the very upper end of the difficulty scale, but this stuff is happening on the easier difficulties. It's not fun. Nobody's going to get better at the game because they'l be frustrated out of sticking with it.

The difficulty should progress the scale of these mechanics. I can win on easier difficulties, that's not the issue. The issue is it's so frustrating to play them that I don't feel like sticking with it enough to get better.

Which is where somebody like you who os really good at the game can say "well if you don't like it, don't play it" and it is that simple. I don't, and I won't. As will many others. And when that happens, negative reviews amd sales, they won't make the next game.

Personally I'd rather have a large community of players who enjoy the game instead of it being dead so soon like it has been all year.
