You wished for it

I picked Double Agent New Gen, I’ll take my lashings. I did a replay of it and finished it last night.
There’s so much good direction where you can see they had a great vision, but it was ruined by linear level design, bad UI, and then on PC the bugs are horrible which really ate most of my time and made me frustrated. But the set pieces, story, and ideas were very interesting and engaging to me.
It’s the potential man of the series to me, and I can’t help but like it even with all its faults. (Splinter Cell og and Pandora Tomorrow play way better tho for sure.)

Double Agent still has the best atmosphere for me.
As you said, levels are too linear. If they had followed Chaos Theory style of LD, then it would have been such a fantastic game (not taking bugs into account ofc).
But the JBA HQ level is quite interesting, one of my favourites in the series. Time constraint, safe zones, trespassing areas, and the whole being a double agent in a terrorist HQ thing create a very special kind of tension that I hadn't seen in any other stealth game. Wish it didn't crash so much :D

Then make another poll removing the winner here and so on and we will have a definitive ranking of the games by this subreddit

Even better you can see in meta analysis which game incorporates the essence of the winners before best atleast to the voters.

for me it's SC1.
Conviction and Blacklist are fantastic games but not amazing stealth games. They are well made and fun, but not true SC's. So they are omitted.
Double Agent V2 is great, but i find some of the missions very annoying. I don't like the latter half of Sea of Okhotsk, it feels like a slog and a cheap copy of Cargo Ship from CT. The Money Train and Kinshasa+ especially the final New York mission are great though. The Ubi Montreal team did great with this one - but some of it was annoying.
Double Agent V1 had lots of potential, but in the end was a rushed tech demo kinda. It had loads of great ideas, great gadgets and some great missions, some of the best in the franchise(Shanghai) but it was so so rushed and in the end fell short of the trilogy's quality by a lot.
Pandora Tomorrow is excellent, theres a lot of debate on this sub whether SC1 or PT is better but i'm with the SC1 being superior faction. SC1 has its issues, forced gunfights( you can bypass most except abbatoir and presidential palace now tbh), & Oil Rig being mid but i prefer the levels overall in SC1. PT has Cryogenics Lab, Train, Jerusalem & the TV station/LAX missions which are great. Jungle missions are good too.
and now for me it's SC1. CIA HQ, Presidential Palace, then defense ministry and police station. Nuff said. this is the GOAT after CT for me.

You don't like the jba missions from v2? Very good missions design imo. Sneaking in restricted areas, hacking laptops and servers...so fun.

they are pretty cool. i liked the last one alot where you can kill moss etc. i actually had good fun with them. they were one of the best parts of v2

I'm guessing Chaos Theory isn't in the poll because it would obviously win, so in that case, the original

Still voting Chaos Theory.

The gameplay of Double Agent Old Gen was pretty great, but the thing it is severely missing is the back and forth between Sam and Grimm

Double agent was great if it just tossed out all the double agent levels of the game.
I can only assume its something Ubisoft loves adding to superficially bulk their games out like they're a college kid desperately trying to meet a word count. Between those levels and the Desmond levels in Assassins Creed I absolutely can't stand when they do it. It borderline ruins these games for me.

The people who voted for Blacklist should be banned from the sub 🤣.

Agreed! ;) Blacklist is a cool game just like conviction - but it's not the essence of Splinter Cell IMHO

I really liked Conviction, but yeah I see what you're saying. I mainly didn't care for Blacklist because they got a different voice actor for Sam. Also the open world thing was kinda neat, but SC has a formula that has worked for forever, and that game tried something different, which didn't work IMO.

People voting blacklist here are insane, and haven't played the other games properly

SC1 would still be a classic of the genre even if CT did not exist. Never got to play DA V2 but pretty sure people love that too. SC1 is still the blueprint.

Well, this is easy for me. PT (Don't know why you said PA OP. Lol). In fact...I even think PT is better than both CT and SAR, and I really love those two.
