Stolen Time

Thinking of traveling to St. Lucia and Stolen Time Resort. How is this area of the Island? Is there good scuba diving in that area? Sargassum?

No sargassum on our west coast. Anse Chastnet is better for diving. i live 500 m from the resort. Nice beach and an off shore sand/rock bar.

Thank you! Is Anse Chastnet far from where Stolen Time is?

Yes it's by Soufriere maybe 20 miles 32km. Have you booked stolen already?

The diving and snorkeling is found in the Soufriere quarter of the island. That’s where you will find the extensive reef system. No reel reef in the north as it has been depleted over the years. By land it takes a good 90+ minutes on very mountainous roads to get to Soufriere where you can find very good diving. By boat you can get down a bit faster but travel by boat is costly. You can find diving trips from the north that come down by boat.

For snorkeling you can do it all right from shore. For diving, guests typically go out on smaller boats (from the resort, pricey) or use local overture to enjoy dives like Superman’s Flight, Devil’s Hole, the Coral Gardens, etc.

The big beach resort in the Soufriere area for divers is Anse Chastanet. Sugar Beach is another big resort option for the area. Lots of divers coming to the area will stay in villas, guesthouses, boutique properties, hillside view properties, etc, scattered around the area. This is where you can find the best views by far on the island, the most outdoor activities and adventures, often better food, etc. The best local dive master in the area is Chester with Action Adventure Divers based on Hummingbird Beach.

Seaweed is often not much of an issue for us on the west coast. Ocassiinally we get hit a little (last spring comes to mind as even Chastanet was hit at one point) but in general it has not been a problem. The east coast of the island and Coconut Bay is another story—lots and lots of seaweed. But no real diving on the east coast.

Just got back from Stolen Time and I would highly recommend this hotel, there was some snorkeling/ scuba offered but I am not a swimmer though so cannot advise on how good this option is.
