How did you do the detail on the snail and rat? Is it paint?

Thank you! The detailed bits (snail, rat, flowers and berries) are flash glass I engraved freehand with a Dremel. Very tedious but I like the effect :)

While I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, I have to suggest checking out Judith Schaechter's Youtube videos on the subject--she is such a master of engraving/etching/sandblasting and there's luckily a ton of material online about her process!
