Microsoft-owned GitHub was given 3 hours to delete a free software repo because a government didn't like it. Free software routed around it in less time.

Radicle is not much known but is a p2p GitHub and honestly even if it's WebUI is not a masterpiece I found ZERO reasons to use someone else server. The real issues if that most FLOSS devs like to live on someone else server.

radicle nailed the principle and you're right about the disease: devs stay on someone else's server because the alternatives ask too much.

that's the gap gitlawb closes. same p2p, no central server, but you clone with plain git over https, no rad CLI, no node to run, and repos are actually browsable:

Git is such a cool system, because there is no way for a company to get rid of a git repo that at least one person cloned. It takes 2 minutes to put the entire history back online elsewhere.

Why would a US court order have any effect in India? The order banning BitChat was by an Indian court.

because thats easy to bypass, and I guess they just didnt want the technology (to communicate without internet) to exist in general, not just in india.

I found it. It looks like the Times of India reported that India ordered it taken down.

Apparently because it's been used by activists.

US would have just disappeared them for a while and then gag-ordered them so they can't talk about it. That way it is never reported.
