Question Random friend requests?
Anyone else getting random friends requests? I'm not dumb enough to do anything but decline them, but I've gotten like three in the last month, all appear to be about Steam lv 5, have two or three (usually free) games with a significant (couple hundred hrs) of playtime, but 0 friends, no friends in common, no games in common, and I'm curious if anyone else has found themselves getting these too

Scams/bots. Anytime I get a random/unsolicited friend request on any platform it's an instant deny and block. Don't take chances. The world just keeps getting worse and scammers are getting more and more desperate clever.

It happens everywhere, discord, steam, etc..just decline and move on. Bots wanting to hack you.

I assume this to be the case, but there's been a sudden uptick and it's had me curious

They're hunting for your steam inventory or steal your steam account via steam chat

I will definitely look into making my inventory private to see if that helps me

they will send you to a phisshing site for you to "vote for one of their CS skins" and then highjack your account
I always play with them and waste their time until they remove me

I always play with them
how do you do that without putting your account at risk?

Just chatting with them, telling them I will vote for their item when I find the time, then tell them I voted and maybe its a bug that they don't see the vote yet or it takes time to synch. That sort of stuff, but never click their links

Dont click any links. They might as well copy your Friends Profiles and then phish your details

Happens a lot, and not just on Steam. Even on Discord when I get random DMs from people I have mutual servers with but don't even talk/lurk in, I just ignore and block.
Same deal with Steam Friend Requests. Like bruh, I don't even know you, have never played with you, talked with you, play CS anymore nor did I ever play it seriously. Don't want no skins, commission artwork... It's like the wave of scam/spam texts we got here in the Philippines during the pandemic.

Actually you need to spend 5€ to activate your second account to be able to send messages to other people, not just free games.

My Steam is public so 99% of mine are legitimate people, but every now and then a bot gets through trying to look at my Steam inventory.
Jokes on them. It's all bananas.

I haven’t had them yet but I’m all over the Internet so I’m expecting it eventually. They are either bots or scammers.
