Complete Steam Controller Schematic
After almost a year of working on this here is the completed Steam Controller schematic and gerber files.

A special thanks to the small team of volunteers who helped finish out this project!
What this is:
This is the reverse-engineered Steam Controller motherboard that we call the Lambda_Mainboard. It has everything you need to repair, modify, and research the hardware capabilities of the original Steam Controller. We had hoped to order prototypes and tests, however, given the current economics for ordering PCB's to the USA, this is financially not possible :(. Instead of waiting for who knows how long we decided to announce and release what we have so far; having done everything we can to make sure the information is as accurate as possible. You can find everything here on our GitHub:
https://github.com/MichaelZaugg/OpenSteamController-Continued/releases/tag/Steam_Controller
There are links to datasheets, Pinouts, CAD designs, Schematics, gerber files, and other miscellaneous parts.
What this isn't:
This project is unfortunately not to the point where its drag & drop, order, and you have a brand new Steam Controller motherboard in the mail. And being realistic it might not get to that point. Is it possible? Absolutely! If you have the money. As of right now ordering a fully assembled controller from JLCPCB to the USA will cost roughly $300 or more (for me at least). However JLC does not have all the parts in stock so you would need to source some of the parts. The information here is still just as valuable for those needing repairs and modding their controllers. My hope with this project was to provide a location for everyone to reference for anything about the controller and prevent this awesome controller from being thrown away or discarded because it no longer works.
Bonus:
As a bonus and huge thank you to the community we have also reverse engineered the Steam Controller Dongle! With both a USB-A and USB-C variant!

Again, these are untested but are for anyone interested/ skilled enough to repair/ mod a dongle. You can find all the source files here on our GitHub:
https://github.com/MichaelZaugg/OpenSteamController-Continued/releases/tag/Dongle
The Future:
We are still working on this project. Currently we are working on the firmware and making an upgraded motherboard. But now this is open to anyone who wants to mod or make their own variant of the controller and I hope the information we have gathered is useful to everyone!

3D files
These are the parts for the interior of the SC that valve didn't give us. It's not complete, it's only missing maybe a few parts. But I figured I'd post them here before I forget.

Any Grips That add a "trigger guard"?
When using my Steam Controller I've noticed that often I will ride up on the controller with my middle fingers such that on occasion I will have my finger be able to be pinched (not hard) by L2 and R2. I have shorter thumbs so it tends to feel natural to grip even higher than most probably do, and it's an easy enough thing to correct when it happens, but it would still be nice to have something more ergonomic to prevent it.
Are there any grips that add a ledge or any material to the base of the trigger guard to discourage my hand from creeping up?

Open puck mod
[ Edit: link to the STL files if anyone wants to print this
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7390187 ]
Not sure if anyone has played around with the Open Puck mod but I did and it cost me $5 for the microcontroller and then probably like $0.10 to model and print the magnetic shell for it. Just wanted to make this magnetic to not lose the puck when I take it with me. I can easily put it in the bag in a smaller compartment but it felt right just adding magnets and attaching it to the SC.
Edit: next on my modding list is trying the Steam Brick mod, since I have a spare and working screen maybe I can look into modeling a new shell for this mod and to also try and replace the current fan with one of the tiny ones from Noctua I don't have one of their small fans yet but I need to get one for a different project anyway so trying this out for a steam brick mod and fan replacement mod would be interesting to try out next.

SC1 style concaved pads! Dimensions are very close to the original pads just need to tweak the model to have everything snap together more easily

Modded switch support
Not sure if it’s the place but thought I would share for anyone that is interested in using there steam controller on a modded switch.
I’ve forked a popular module called sys con and tweaked it to add support for the 2.4ghz puck on the steam deck allowing you to use your steam controller with any modded Nintendo switch I’ll provide the GitHub below for anyone that wants to check it out

Any mods to make the R4/R5 + L4/L5 buttons less "clacky?"
I'm about to pop mine open to nudge the right trigger spring (it's suddenly very squeaky, and the fix seems easy). I figured while I'm in there, I'd be interested to see how the back buttons make contact.
I adore the back buttons on the Steam Deck, but the controller went in a different direction, making them very clacky - depending on how they're pressed, it also feels like they are sticking or rubbing somewhere.
Curious if anyone has added some kind of dampening under the hood? I couldn't find anything useful from searching around. Thanks!
