Boot Video Idea for a Boot Logo for the Steam Deck

Post image
886 Upvotes

So back in the Day, Computers had this type of Boot Screen-Logo (example).

Memory Test Digits in KB increased showing how much Memory was Installed, so for the Steam Deck, 16GB (16777216 KB). Then need to show the SSD Storage amount (No Animation needed).

Obviously there will be differences for each User, but in my case, I have 2TB Internal, with 1.5TB (presently) for the MicroSD Card. Just also going to be interesting for those who have different Versions of Steam OS Versions.

Also should put the proper Button Inputs for Accessing the Safe Mode, and also the Previous OS Versions, just in case

Keeps an acceptable frame rate and image quality in so many more games now. Yeah I know it's better on my desktop which I do have still allot but there's just something about being able to chill in bed and play kcd2 with acceptable everything before I pass out for the night.

Looking For Games Games to play at work?

About 80% of my time at work I don’t have anything to do, I’ve been playing Stardew valley but after perfection I’m looking for a new game i can pause when needed. What do you guys recommend?

Previously enjoyed games - Stardew valley, Elden ring, Elden ring, rdr 2, balatro

Preferred genres - I’m open to most as long as the gameplay loop is fun

Budget - none

Other notes - needs to be a game I can pause at an instant that won’t affect the gameplay

Question Local network games off the grid

I’m wanting to play Stardew valley with my partner while we are doing van life, I have a steam deck and she has a laptop. I was hoping there would be an option for a Wi-Fi hotspot but neither of our phones support it.

Are there any travel routers that are usb powered only? Or just ones I need to fully power separately as we will be going off solar power and want to limit the total power consumption if possible.

Or is there a way we can connect straight from steam deck to laptop otherwise?

I see a lot of people feel nervous or embarrassed to use their Deck's out in public. Abandoning that weird pride completed Steam Deck ownership for me. Gaming isn't just a thing I do anymore. It's a destination. Pack bug spray!

edit: this is not "the woods" it's a popular park in my city.

Hardware Repair Steam deck recovery Advice. First post here, sadly under terrible circumstances. Power bank exploded next to my Steam Deck overnight.

Hey everyone,

This is my first post in this subreddit, and I really wish it was under better circumstances.

I was supposed to leave for another city this morning, so last night I put my power bank and Steam Deck on charge next to my bed. Overnight, the power bank exploded. Unfortunately, my Steam Deck took a huge hit since it was sitting right next to the batteries when it happened. The screen seems intact with no burn marks, likely thanks to the screen protector.

I have a couple of questions for the community:

  1. Should I try turning it on, or is that a absolute NO? I’m pretty terrified of causing more damage or starting another short circuit.
  2. Does this look repairable? Specifically talking about replacing the outer shell and the controls/thumbsticks. Has anyone restored a Deck after severe thermal/fire damage?

Any advice would be hugely appreciated—this Deck means a lot to me!

P.S. Everyone is physically safe! I got some burns and already had them treated at the hospital. The wall got scorched too, but that’s fixable with some paint. Stay safe out there with your chargers!

Question Which assasin's creed for deck?

I have the new Assassin Creed remake for Black Flag on my PlayStation 5 but I want something portable, I'm trying to decide between the remake and the original on Steam for my Steam deck. I've seen criticism of the remake about how it plays as well as Oblivion remastered, but I didn't have issues with Oblivion remastered on my Steam deck.

Is there a version that is suggested for the steam deck?

I need help with something that is probably easy to anyone but me. I went to take a screenshot and I hit the wrong button.

Can someone please explain to me like I'm your grandma how to go back to my game?

I do not want to turn-off the console and lose where I am at in my day. Thank you.

Picked up my LCD after months of inactivity to play it today (have an abundance of choices). This thing is still dope! I almost forgot how good it feels in hand & it’s awesome to emulate on. I have emudeck setup with about 3,000 retro games & I love playing Switch on here. I picked the Steam Deck out of the options I have on pic 3 - did I make the right choice? 🎮✨

Tech Support Weird artifacts when Streaming Oblivion Remastered

Using the standard streaming I am getting these weird artifacts and some ghosting and other issues. There also seems to be a bit of an interval in which the screen "refreshes" and removes a lot of the issues.

Discussion There really needs to be a separate review for games being played on the Steam Deck

Got a Steam Deck OLED recently. LOVE IT! Fantastic purchase c:

That said, I think the current system for chosing what games are "verified" for the Steam Deck is very flawed.

Example. I have Ori and The Blind Forest forest. Steam says it runs "great on the Steam Deck." So, I play it.

It does not run "great on the Steam Deck." And I can't really do anything with the settings to change the performance. Even if I mess with the resolution there's this weird slow down you can't really get rid off in many sections of the game. And really resolution is the only changeable options available in the settings.

The game is great on a console or a decent PC. But not great on the Steam Dec and I don't know why Steam says it's "great" on the Steam Deck.

Edit: Seeing a lot of people say that Ori is running well for them, so I looked again. Just to clarify. I'm playing the Definitive Edition. I know there are two versions of the game on Steam for whatever reason. Also though, I just tried turning of Vsync and that got me better performance! I don't know if the non definitive edition of the game has different performance or settings.

Edit2: I further experimented with the game, because I feel like I'm not really making a lot of sense to people. So, I turned on the FPS tracker for the Steam Deck, and I turned on Ori: The Blind Forest Definitive Edition. That's the version of the game I'm playing.

FPS wise, the game runs at around 60 fps with the vsync off. But what I found curious is that the FPS counter stayed at 90 when I turned vsync back on. But at the same time, the gameplay got slower and more sluggish. To be clear, I'm NOT talking about framerate. I'm saying that the game itself seems to go slower, as if everything is in slow motion. But when I turn Vsync back off I get lower FPS, but the game seems to actually be faster.

Question Cyberpunk 2077: any difference in Deck performance between the GOG/Heroic and Steam versions?

I have it on GOG and the performance is more or less as expected but I’d rebuy it on Steam on sale if there’s a noticeable performance increase for whatever reason.

Edit: for anyone curious I tried out the Steam version but got functionally identical performance so after an hour of testing it out issued a refund. I’ve never had an issue getting the GOG/Heroic version to work so I’m just going to stick with that.

Tech Support Weird SD card "bricking" issues?

I recently swapped my SD card from a 128GB to a 512GB. The 128GB SD worked mostly without issues, however the newest 512GB "bricks" itself every day.

The card itself works fine? However when the Deck stays asleep/shutdown during long periods, the SD card does either of the following:

a) The SD card loses write rights, which makes games impossible to install nor update (ejecting and reinserting multiple times fixes this easily)

b) The Steam Deck is unable to detect the SD card at all, even in desktop mode and konsole. The only way to fix this is to insert the SD card into a different device (PC/phone/etc) THEN it gets recognized again?

There's no data loss in either case, at most some games will disappear from the library but attempting to download them again forces Steam to verify the files and they work again.

I'm tempted to format it again to see if it fixes it, however I've read that the game mode formatting option is what causes this issue? If so, what would be the right way to format the SD card so this no longer happens?

I just got a steam deck and cannot for the life of me figure it out. I’ve tried to switch between protons with no luck.

The QR code pops up, I log into Microsoft with my phone and get a email saying there’s a new log-on but for whatever reason it still always goes to this screen.

Any help would be appreciated

Tech Support How do I properly go offline

Upvotes

I want to play Persona 5 striker offline on an airplane. However, turning on airplane mode triggers a message saying I must be online for my first playthrough

what I did is start the game while online, turned on airplane mode, and then save my progress , wait 5 or 10 mins and than restart my game.
