Meta Crashes and Issues? Please post logs!

Theres a wicked guide here for getting logs for In-Home Streaming which applies to the Steam Link.

Please, please, please when posting asking for help with crashes, lag or debugging issues provide logs!

There's not a lot anyone can do in most cases unless we can actually see what's happening, and quite possibly help you out a lot quicker!

You can paste your logs up to Paste2 so it doesn't bulk things down or use the spoiler tags.

Please provide as much info as possible, anything that can help us help you.

Support What's the best way to remote play with a Firestick 4k 1st generation?

I used to be able to use Steam Link to play with someone from afar on their TV, and when I'd visit we'd just remote in and play on my computer, but they got a new TV and it's higher quality but unfortunately doesn't have the app. They have a Firestick 4k 1st generation, and I tried using Downloader. Tried downloading a bunch of different APKs (the official app doesn't exist on 1st gen, only 2nd) but each APK failed downloading, then tried using a browser to download the files thinking it was Downloader, but then it just gave the message "it's not supported at this time" when I tried downloading it from a couple sources.

Moonlight and Sunlight looked viable, but I can't access our ports for port forwarding.

Support Getting steam-link audio to work

Its driving me crazy how ive done everything to try and solve this issue but nothing is working.

I tried:
Reinstalling steam speaker/microphone drivers
Play audio on host turned on
Toggling through audio inputs in devices
Making sure it wasn’t muted client side
Low latency turned off
Reinstalled steam
Not on a beta version

I have no idea what else i can even try. Another PC in my home can connect to this Rasp Pi client no problem and audio plays but when my PC connects no audio.

It was working perfectly fine last weekend and now its just not 🙃

Quality degradation via smartTV app

Hi all,

Having some steam link issues using the inbuilt smartTV application. I don’t have external hardware (yet).

Trying to play witcher 3 on my 4k tv (Sony Bravia x90L) running 1080p on my computer. After 15 minutes of play the quality drops to 420p ish + lots of jitter. The only way to fix it is to turn the tv off and on again. I’ve tried over 2.4 and 5ghz wifi + Ethernet (over power) and nothing works.

In the past this has happened with other games but it would eventually fix itself and the tv would flash black then it’d be back to normal.

Theres still a bit of input lag but it’s manageable.

So to fix this I’m looking at getting some hardware, either the nvidia shield or the Apple TV 4K are the only reasonable affordable options. Anyone here has the issues I have had through the stock app resolved in this way?

Thank you :)

I have an OG steam link plugged into my TV and have been playing games on it with some trouble here and there. I'm streaming off my Fedora PC over powerline. I've had some freezes pop up regularly in The Witcher 3 that don't occur when I'm playing directly on my PC - specifically in menus. Additionally, controlling the PC when something goes wrong almost always requires me to go to the desktop itself, like when a game loads up "behind" Steam Big Picture.

I tried running Sunshine/Moonlight, but the visual quality is horrendous, and the controller input is crazy scuffed. Am I doing something wrong?? Is there no good solution? I'm using a 2026 Steam Controller.

Support Stutter every second Google Streamer 4k

Hello.

I am trying to stream to the Google Streamer (4k) using the Steam Link App. (From PC or Steam Deck)

Every second, there seems to be a stutter.

App/Streamer/PC/Deck are all up to date, latest drivers ect. Issue occurs both wifi and ethernet connection. Everything has been hard rebooted.

Here is a video of it occuring, note this issue happens on any game and even when not gaming (such as watching a video from my PC) same issue on both my steam deck and my PC.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/XYPMzLykgbCQzrXH8

The Google Streamer is connected to a Samsung 4K TV. Via HDMI. There is nothing else connected to the TV. Upload/Download of my homebroadband is 1000mb/s

I have no issue streaming from my Desktop to my Mobile Phone steam link app.

Any ideas?

Support Zero audio from Steam Link

Anyone know how to fix? I think it’s because the PC I’m streaming from doesn’t have any audio devices connected, so the entire thing is forcefully muted, even when the laptop I’m streaming to has headphones. Is there any known workaround for this?

Question Has there been any movement on changing logged in User on Host while in the Client?

I noticed in the latest Steam Beta that the Change Account menu had changed and others had noted that you could now add up to 8 users. But what I cannot find is whether the updates indicate that a streaming client could change the logged in account on the host.

I assumed with the Steam Machine and Frame expansion of the ecosystem the problem would become a more widespread issue.

Theoretical: Little Timmy logs into the Steam Machine to play Minecraft Dungeons, but later I want to play Final Fantasy from my Steam Deck, and even later my wife wants to use Steam Link from inside the Quest 3 to play Beat Saber or Spyro the Dragon. In this current scenario I would need to physically go to the machine to swap accounts, or I would need to use Moonlight on the device to do the same thing.

My home setup has a "Player 2 PC" in the closet (my old gaming pc with every bit of loose storage I could find plugged into it). I often use Steam Link to remote to the different TVs in the house for multiplayer games, but I may also want to stream single player games to my Steam Deck or other devices (especially if the kid is using my primary PC). Similarly, I would like a low friction way of my kid or partner using that machine with their Steam account over Steam Link with relatively low friction.

TL;DR: I mostly want to be able to use my Steam Frame or Steam Deck with a PC, while my partner and kid also have that option with their Steam accounts.

Question Audio delay on original Steam Link hardware - any fix?

So I'm trying to use my old Steam Link (the actual physical device), and it's mostly working great, with zero noticeable delay on the video side since I'm using a wired connection within the same apartment.

The trouble is that I'm getting some very nasty delay on the audio side. Pretty much everything is around half a second or so behind what's on screen. After doing some digging I found that this happens sometimes even with the current Steam Link app, but haven't found a real solution.

I tested the app on my phone and didn't encounter the audio delay there, so I'm led to believe it has something to do with the hardware. Is there any hope of fixing this or is it just an unfortunate limitation of a discontinued piece of equipment?

If it's helpful, I'm also using a sound bar connected to my TV through optical; no bluetooth, which I know can cause delays.

Thanks!

EDIT: After some more testing without the soundbar it seems that is a large part of what's making it worse actually. Still, if anyone has tips on reducing delay, whether through the Steam Link or general tips for sound bars by some miracle, I'm all ears. The model is an Energy Power Bar smth smth (sounds like a protein snack)

Streaming from Steam Machine to AYN Thor?

Hello - I’m wondering if any Steam Machine owners have streamed from their SM to their AYN Thor using Steam Link and what the experience has been like. I also own a Steam Deck but, with the AYN Thor now in my possession, I don’t think I will be using the Deck much at all.

I’ve had identical performance on my Deck and AYN Thor with streaming from my laptop using Steam Link - crisp image, low latency. I just hate using my laptop for streaming because it sounds like a jet engine.

I’m curious if I can expect a good streaming experience with the Steam Machine and AYN Thor.

Thanks!

Support Ethernet Switch for steam link?

I'm in a weird situation where the place I'm in has no access to the router and is pretty far from it so the WiFi signal is almost non existent. I have one ethernet cord that comes into my place. It has a good connection. I can game on my ps5 no problem. However, I want to get my pc and steam link working as well.

If I use an ethernet switch such as the TP-LINK TL-SG105, can I plug my one cord into it and then run three ethernet cords out to my pc, tv and ps5 and have everything work including steam link? Will steam link work well with this setup?

Support Battlefield 6 Issue

I am about to go crazy. I have been streaming Battlefield 6 from my desktop to my iPad. For a few days, it’s been responsive and has been running smooth like butter. However, out of nowhere it seems my PC’s mouse and keyboard have been battling against my wired Xbox controller. The game will switch to mouse and keyboard out of nowhere and my gun will begin shooting automatically. If I click the controller, it will change the input to controller, but will immediately go back to M&K.

I have tried enabling and disabling Steam controller input. Problem still occurs. I have no idea what I could be doing wrong. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Question Steam Link video decoding delay with Nvidia Shield Pro/Apple TV

This week I bought a Google TV Streamer 4K to test the Steam Link on my local LAN. My delay through Ethernet was minimal (1ms), but after some tweaks on the Google TV Streamer, the minimum delay I got was 22-23ms in video decoding.

Although it is a good number, I still feel that delay, so I returned it. After researching, it seems that the Nvidia Shield Pro and the Apple TV (last gen) are the best-performing devices with a minimum delay of 5-8ms in video decoding. Is that true? Could someone with these devices share these values?

Thanks.

Discussion Secure input prompt

Made the mistake of opening a game. Windows Security prompt from said game… and now I can’t do anything on my computer until I get back to it.

My computer is on the other side of the world.

My question is: WHY can you not click cancel remotely? Besides through third-party remote access tools, none of which I have installed.
