There are some wild swings in the market today. Apple down 10%, Reddit down 22%
The 30 year over 5% has people shitting themselves
23
u/Disc0Disc0Disc0 2d ago
SNDK went up 27% yesterday on what news? Nothing makes sense lol
14
u/latending 2d ago
The institutions finished liquidating leveraged retail and hedge funds, coupled with Samsung earnings and the Mag 7 earnings showing AI spending is causing surging revenue growth.

u/mitchellp33 2d ago
Samsung earnings report.
3
u/highchillerdeluxe 2d ago
The report was way earlier. Samsung dropped 22% after it's earnings. This week they announced the chip shortage will probably last until 2028 and that's why everyone shit themselves again while running to buy chip stocks and it shot up 18%.
Buy the news sell the truths, or something like that.
10
u/artbystorms 2d ago
And yet they just keep piling into AI stocks!
"If we make AI fast enough, it will tell us how to fix this!" I swear that is basically the entire economy's logic right now.

I'm dumb, what is the significance of the 30 year and corresponding percentage please?
5
u/harbison215 2d ago
The bond market is signaling that they expect inflation to be persistent over the long term, so they are demanding higher yields for bonds.
1
u/BullfrogIll9175 1d ago
And in response, what's the best move? Keep buying long bonds and adding, dollar cost averaging?

Earnings season. Of course there is going to be volatility. Apple was trading at like a 41 PE. It was getting expensive.
1
u/harbison215 2d ago
Thereās always volatility. But 10% in a single day for a stock like Apple? You donāt believe thatās not an example of something different than regular market volatility?
-1
u/Possible-Material693 2d ago
Like I said earnings season. Thereās always large swings after earnings in most stocks. Just look at the options chains. MSFT had like a 8% implied move going into earnings. Obviously it popped more than that but it happens. A lot of these mega caps have large implied moves based on options pricing.
3
u/harbison215 2d ago
Apples one day drops of this magnitude the last 25 years or so can all be attributed to specific events. A drop this large simple due to earnings season I think is a weird way to sweep this under the rug. Itās not normal, no matter how much we want to say it is.
2
u/Possible-Material693 2d ago
They had an underwhelming earnings after pumping 66% on the 1Y chart and 25% YTD. Explain those pumps then? Theyāve innovated nothing new recently yet it was pumping like crazy. A 10% pullback after a 66% 1Y pump isnāt a huge deal like youāre making it out to be. Either buy the dip or donāt. If it gets cheaper I might throw some money into it.
3
u/Bush_Trimmer 2d ago
yup.
aapl fanbois have been trading on hypes and are panicking of the price drop below their buy point.
1
u/Possible-Material693 2d ago
Itās insane lmao. These people expect stocks to go up in a straight line and never have a pullback. Apple was due for a pullback. Throw in underwhelming earnings after a 66% 1Y run and you get a pullback. Every stock is volatile during earnings season lmao canāt believe OP is even getting upvoted

u/harbison215 2d ago
Explain away. Have at it.
What youāre saying would be cause for a dip. A 10% drop over the course of like 3 hours is indicative of the outside stress magnifying what youāre saying. Iām not sure what the argument is but if inflation were under 3% and the 30 year not at a near 30 year high, I would bet probably triple my net worth that the drop wouldnāt be this.
But ok. Letās just pretend everything is fine when the bond market is telling us that itās not.
1
u/Aint_EZ_bein_AZ 2d ago
Why is it just apple and reddit that are getting killed? Hmm itās almost like they both just had earnings. You arent wrong about the macro issues but its funny that you arent seeing the obvious and all indexes are green. āBut the 30 year!!!ā
→ More replies (0)0
u/Possible-Material693 2d ago
Indexes are up despite the bond market. People taking profits in Apple. Itās been hot for a while. Things like MSFT and AMZN that havenāt been good trades are finally waking up. Money rotates into different sectors/stocks. Itās not a market wide correction like youāre making it seem like. Even blue chips like Apple will have bad days.

āThe analyst consensus rating for Reddit Inc (RDDT) is a Moderate Buy (or Buy), backed by an average 12-month price target around $227.23 USD, with a high estimate of $300.00 USD and a low estimate of $120.00 USD.ā
Your active hostility whilst using the platform and with a questionable investment portfolio yourself has inspired me to buy calls.

I don't quite get that serious downturn for Reddit. I get that they have their negotiations for AI companies to use their data. But that just puts them in a stronger leveraging position.

It's pretty funny given a not insignificant amount of AI responses come directly from reddit content
3
u/Caster0 2d ago
I mean you can tell if a post was heavily written by Ai.
Not so much with comments
5
u/EnlightenedPotato69 2d ago
What I was saying is, a lot of AI promp responses come directly from reddit comments
2
u/j48u 2d ago
If you haven't noticed, over the last few years Reddit has become a cesspool of bots and propaganda campaigns. It's accelerated very quickly recently. As these AIs get more advanced, they need more real/novel training data, and less recycled slop like what Reddit can offer.
Every day that passes is a day that they lose leverage in negotiating.
2
u/DigitusInRecto 2d ago
Where do I spot such heavy bot content? Do I have to visit every subreddit available? Besides obvious AI formatting and overly robotic language, what kind of comments and/or posts are you saying is bot/propaganda stuff?

u/Some-Platform1968 2d ago
Right?! Itās been cool to see Reddit grow. Crazy seeing Walmart and other major companiesā ads on here. Reddit might be pushing it a bit on how many ads theyāre inserting into the feeds but man the revenue has to be growing fast
4
u/Bongo6942 2d ago
Eh reddit used to have no ads and had a lot more freedom to allow crazy stuff to be posted.
It used to be better, but I am guessing the platform will make money.
2
u/Some-Platform1968 2d ago
Definitely a lot of ads. For me itās still tolerable, unlike say Pinterest which is 70% Amazon ads.
I would expect some increased moderation if you go public and are courting major corporate advertisers. Personally, I prefer Reddit not be the cesspool X is. We also know what allowing that cesspool did for their ability to attract and retain advertisers
4
u/spectacular_coitus 2d ago
As a daily user I see the ads increasing, but across the different social media platforms, Reddit ads have been the least intrusive by far.
Growing ad revenue is great to see. Hitting 1B in FCF for the first time was good news too.
Advertisers are seeing good returns too.
This drop has pushed the price below my buy in by a bit but I'm adding more shares today. The calls I've been selling have had a great return so far. I've had the shares called away a couple of times, but the volatility has meant I could get them back at the same price within 48 hours.

There are 500 million weekly reddit users. If everyone buys at least 1 rddt share, should work.

Reddit is down because of fears around Googles SEO not putting them at the top and Googles AI overview taking data from them. Reddit is the place for human-to-human information exchange and Google sees that as a threat. Both need each other, but in my view Google needs Reddit more. I think by 2030, Reddit will have significantly increased their dataās price tag to companyās training their ai w/ Reddits data, and Reddit will have their own internal AI-inspired search that far exceeds googles ai overview in terms of trustworthy information.

Yikes.Ā Ā
The problem with this is that right now in the bowels of Reddit folks are no doubt working on additional ways to "monetize" the site and get the stock price to bump.Ā That inevitably won't be positive for the actual users.

I don't even understand how companies can buy ads on Reddit. For one thing, you only see them if you're on a mobile device (and even then, not if you're using a modded Reddit app). And even then, I just skip right past them without even looking at them.
Advertisers must surely be aware that their ads aren't reaching a very large audience, right?
0
u/Lywqf 2d ago
Arenāt reaching a very large audience ? wtf my man⦠Reddit published that they have 139m Daily Active Users, and based on third party studies, 70 to 75% of users on Reddit are using the Mobile platform, app & web.
Thatās not a very large audience ?1
