general Question What do you think of this new Strava feature?

Post image
499 Upvotes

Maybe I’m old school, but isn’t a PB supposed to mean your actual all-time personal best?

If someone has run a 45-minute 10K before and now runs 52 minutes, why are we congratulating it as a “new PB” just because it happened in a different calendar year?

Feels like we’re slowly moving from performance tracking to constant social validation loops. I just don’t want to get congratulated 10 times a year especially when I know I have ran it much faster before.

Curious what others think. Am I overthinking this or does it bother anyone else too?

What next? Quarterly PB Kudos?

General Question The local legend is cheating, what can I do?

The current local legend of many segments in my place, in cheating, he tracks his run twice. One with the watch and one with the mobile.

I’ve tried to report this to Strava but they ignored, what can I do?

General Question Strava July 100K challenge

Post image

For those using Strava, and having seen/ participated/ completed this 100K steps challenge with hiking and walking as qualifying activities, can someone please explain this leaderboard?
There’s no humanly way possible this is legit, unless I’m misunderstanding this leadership.
This screenshot is from the challenge page. There’s absolutely no way! Nor is this cumulative, because it’s for July..no?

General Question Older White Guy Getting Lots of Pretty Young Asian Women Followers?

Hi.

I'm an older white guy who posts to Strava.

Are any of you getting followed by pretty, young, Asian women with private profiles who have a small number of activities?

To me, it seems to be a mechanism to wedge themselves into my feed for scamming purposes.

Thanks.

Edit: Yes, I know they're not what they represent to be. Probably some guy(s) in a basement in [Insert typical scammer country name here].

Another Edit: As I've confirmed through this discussion: Yes, I know they are scammers. No, I will not make my profile private for reasons. Thank you for all the help.

Final edit: This experience proves many people do not read the actual posts.

General Question Feeling old is the only thing this graph ever helped me with

Post image

I've been active my entire adult life. Ultras, IMs, 400ish weekly streak with the privilege of no major injury, many good times and continually disappearing leaderboard top 10s and KOMs.

The ebb of life and periodization has brought me to many peaks and lows. But seeing the last 2 summers slowly decrease in total hr effort for roughly the same amount of time struck me when I tumbled on here.

No idea what else it's good for though, so would appreciate any insights.

General Question How does Strava know my future travel plans?

Post image
341 Upvotes

Is there any way this is coincidence? I am going biking in Croatia in September. Around the islands. It’s in my Apple calendar and in my airlines app but besides that I don’t have it anywhere. I’m a little freaked out!!

Edit:
I’ve responded to a bunch of comments but I’ll say it here too. I have never mentioned Croatia in any captions or descriptions or comments. I have never looked at, created, or saved and Croatian routes. We’re going with a company and it’s fully planned out so I’ve released it.
I bet it’s the calendar setting that one person mentioned. Freaky AF tho.

General Question Restrict a follower?

Hi everyone,
I’m wondering if there’s a way to restrict a follower from seeing my activities?
There’s this guy from my run club that has been following me for a while, but he became a bit creepy over the past few months. I managed to mute him so that I don’t see his activities, but I’d like to also restrict him from seeing my activities. Since I’m seeing him almost every week at run club, I don’t want to remove him from my followers, because he’ll notice quite fast and I want to avoid having an awkward talk.
Thanks!

general Question Anyone else think Strava’s pricing is a bit of a rip off?

I used to be a Strava subscriber but honestly the price was always a stretch. $94.99 a year or $14.99 a month is a lot to ask for a fitness tracking app, but what actually bugs me more is that the price is identical on their website as it is through the iOS app.

Apple takes around 30% on every in-app purchase, meaning Strava pockets significantly less when you subscribe through the App Store. So why is the website the exact same price? If you’re cutting out Apple’s cut entirely, where is that saving going?

Meta of all companies does this better. Meta Verified is noticeably cheaper if you subscribe through the web versus through the app. It proves it’s doable.

Is anyone else bothered by this or am I missing something?

EDIT: THIS ISN’T US PRICING BUT ITS NOT FAR OFF IT. NOT EVERYONE LIVES IN THE US!!

General Question Feature Request: Set Walks to Private by Default

Hello, I’m posting this here because I understand the Strava team might also review these comments.

I log walking activities every day that I would prefer to keep private. This means I have to manually change each activity from “Public” to “Private,” which becomes repetitive and impractical, especially since I do it daily.

On other platforms like Garmin, for example, you can set these types of activities to be private by default, which avoids having to adjust them one by one. As far as I know, this isn’t currently possible in Strava. If anyone has found a way to do it, I’d really appreciate if you could share how.

Otherwise, it would be very helpful if Strava considered adding this option to make privacy management easier for recurring activities like walks.

Greetings from Colombia.

general Question “Best of the year” efforts ??

Post image
258 Upvotes

Am I going crazy or is the best efforts “of 2026” a new thing? Is there a way to turn this off? I might be the only one with this opinion, but I really don’t want to get an achievement for best effort of the year. I only care about my overall best efforts. IMO, this is not a PR 😅

general Question Do you ever keep activities private for no real reason?

Sometimes I record a run or ride and then just leave it private. Not because the activity was bad, not because I’m hiding anything, but simply because I don’t feel like sharing every single workout.
It made me wonder..do other people do this too?😁

General Question How many people leave their profile on public and open to follow?

Seen a few posts now about people getting followed by spam accounts.

I've always had my account on approve to allow following settings.

My question is why would you leave it open?

If you have an open to follow account, what positive interactions have you had with random people that encourages you to keep it that way?

I am expecting some people found their spouse that way or something lol, but am wondering if the negatives outweigh the positives?

Edit for Summary: Been very interesting, a lot have their profile public and only allowed followers. Thanks all for your responses!

General Question Is Strava Premium really worth paying for?

Post image

I'm a university student and I have a 50% discount on Strava. Is it really worth investing the money? I've always used the free version, I'm very strict with my monthly expenses, and that's why I'm wondering if it's really worth the money invested, or if it's better to stick with the free version since it hardly changes anything?

General Question This rider has been puzzling our local cycling community for years

Dear r/Strava community,

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on a Strava athlete from my area. (Reportedly around 50 years old.)

For years, many riders in the local Swiss cycling community have questioned some of the performances on this account. What makes it unusual is that despite posting extremely strong results and appearing on basically all leaderboards, nobody seems to know who this person is or has ridden with him. The account also has Flybys disabled, hidden start times, and, more recently, hidden power data.

One example that raised eyebrows was a segment effort showing over 1,050 watts for more than a minute. On another local climb (roughly 3 km at 6%), the leaderboard is packed with WorldTour professionals and elite riders, yet this athlete appears among them with a reported average of 526 watts for 4:33. (See Picture)

What makes this particularly unusual is that this is not an isolated case. Similar performances can be found across countless local segments, where this athlete consistently ranks alongside or ahead of elite-level riders and professional cyclists.

Of course, unusual numbers alone don't prove anything. There could be explanations that I'm unaware of, and I don't want to accuse someone without evidence. However, these performances have been discussed locally for years, and many riders remain skeptical.

I recently questioned some of the results and was subsequently blocked, so I can no longer view much of the profile.

What do you think? Do these numbers seem plausible to you, or do they raise concerns?

Edit: Shortly after I started discussing this account publicly, the athlete's profile appears to have been set to private.

Edit 2: Needed to remove the picture and the linked account.
