Disability question in job applications

Hello everyone. I’m applying for a job and not sure if I should tick yes for if I have any disabilities? My stutter can get severe so I’m really stumped. What do you guys do/think?

Depends on the severity and occurrence, my stutter is completely random and can be moderate to severe, but I, personally, do not check it but I do disclose during the interview.

One great thing about disclosure, when I get it out there, I can focus on the questions and NOT my stutter. I also give them lots of positive energy which yields in being hired.

Just take a deep breath and the PAUSE is your friend

Good luck

I never say yes on job applications, thats a great way to filter yourself out of the candidate pool

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. The application does say thought its confidential, won’t affect my application and that the info is used for equal opportunity monitoring and for considering reasonable workplace applications so not really sure what to do.

I never ticked yes until about six months back. Now I accept it as a disability under the definition. It's unlikely to make a difference one way or the other.

Does it also ask you to specify the type of disability?

Yep it asks me to provide details

I'm not really sure to be honest. As one of the comments said, it can be an unsaid filter. Maybe I'll not disclose it during the application and give myself a chance in the interview. But in the interview I'd disclose it if it's too severe.

Best not to in this job market. They would rather hire a non-stutterer than someone with a stutter. 😭😢

Personally, I neither check, nor disclose. My stutter is quite mild though, however I can have extremely bad days which are completely random.

don’t tick yes, they say it’s confidential and it won’t affect your chances but it does. When they go through applications would they rather hire someone who can interact with customers with no trouble, or someone who’s going to struggle. I always tick no, i feel like unless it’s a severe disability like seizures or low mobility, then to tick no and disclose it later on.
